I didn't have time to read the whole article so please inform me if I am wrong but I got that part of the blame is being placed on USAG for not doing something. What could they have done if the victims waited nearly 30 years to come forward? Was USAG supposed to somehow just know what was going on or was it brought to their attention and nothing was done about it? I got the impression from other threads on other boards that this is just now being brought to their attention and they ARE investigating.

I would suggest you read the whole article before commenting. There are many quotes in the piece about how USA Gymnastics could have investigated the rumors flying around at the time but chose not to. To Jen Sey and others quoted, they never put the safety of the athletes (who are children, by the way) first in these situations.

Don Peters, a former Olympic coach, accused of sexual abuse. I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about him now, having been a big fan of some of his former athletes...

Wow, that's quite a story and I also feel bad for his athletes. :(

How did that stuff not end up in the Little Girls in Pretty Boxes book though?! She dug up so much bad stuff from the skating and gymnastics worlds that I can't imagine the author didn't know or at least hear something about this guy. She did leave out several names of some of the girls though so maybe she did hear about it. How sad to think that these now adult aged women could have been those unnamed girls. :( :fragile:

Is this the Chinese squad? I guess Cheng Fe wasn't able to overcome what they said was a minor injury? Not that she was going to be of much use, anyway, IMO.

Yeah it looks like it. I read somewhere that Cheng Fei was taking it a little easier to prepare for next year. Even if she just vaulted her beautiful DTY and has a 15 scoring BB and mid 14 scoring floor I think she would be chosen. I loved Cheng Fei, she was so much fun in every competition and seeing her one last time would be great. If she could somehow get her 2 vaults back and win the Oly vault title I wouldn't be mad at her. :D

From L - R in that photo: Huang Quishuang, Sui Lu, He Kexin, Jiang Yuyuan, Tan Sixin, Wu Liufang, Yao Jinnan. Huang Quishuang is supposed to be the alternate.

In terms of individual success, right now I would love nothing more than for Cheng Fei or McKayla Maroney to win the Vault title in London.

I love McKayla's vault, but I'm rooting for Cheng to come back and win the title. I felt terrible she couldn't get either of the titles she wanted so badly in Beijing--she's way too good to miss out on winning an Olympic individual title.

I am more than fine with Fei not winning an Olympic gold. She should have won two in Beijing but couldn't do it. She got a bronze she did not earn although that wasn't her fault but the judges. Maroney is a better vaulter, anyway so Fei would need help. Maybe her reputation would give her the boost she needs but with her age and knee issues, I don't see her vaulting the Amanar with any consistency and the Cheng vault should be just as hard on her. Maroney has the best and most consistent Amanar we have ever seen and is training a Cheng.

I'm skeptical about Maroney. I think her back injury could be a bigger problem than we know. As I understand it, it's pretty chronic. You can only inject so many cortisone shots into one's spine, before the body just says NO!

The All-Around did an in-depth prediction of the 2011 Worlds just going by the numbers we have thus far.

It's a very interesting read.

Speaking of predictions, how about a gymnastics prediction contest, on the site we're using for the figure skating competitions? I could create one.

Paseka is out of Worlds for Russia. I don't think it was clear if she was an alternate or not but she vaulted a good Amanar at a recent competition and it was pretty much a given she would be on the team for vault alone. Now she is out with a hamstring injury and Russia's problems just got a lot worse.

Ay ay ay, how many gymnasts will that vault take out? Sacramone is smart for not just chucking it.
