Okay, so why do Dube/Wolfe have two events when Gelbordt/Enbert only have one?
What's the logic behind that? G/E are the better team at this point and far more deserving.

Maybe the French fed figures G/E would almost certainly beat the French pair team, while Dube/Wolfe haven't exactly been stellar performers so far.

The way the rules favor returning skaters leaves the door open for such a selection.

According to the GP announcement, D/W should have been offered a spot before G/E, unless it would violate another rule regardless of the French Fed's preference.

It doesn't just leave the door open: it gives preference to returning skaters and then split couples.

They're still miles better than any of the current French pair teams. :shuffle:

I think it's because of three Russian couples that have already stated on TEB.
No one country can have more than three spots in the one event.

James/Cipres are no teknik but they're fun to watch, likeable, have some spunk. You know, qualities Jessica Dube is never going to have. :P

If internet reports and twitter feeds are to be believed, P/B have apparently withdrawn frm Skate Canada, leaving two questions.

1. Is there time to replace them? IIRC there are two nearby teams at the top of the sub list. Lichtman/Copely or K/G-S might still be able to get there?

2. Will this mean P/B also have to withdraw from TEB? (Wasn't there some rule which didn't allow those with 3 assignments to withdraw from just one of them?)

ETA: They've been crossed off the master ISU schedule, so this in now confirmed.

They are crossed off SC only---they are still on the TEB roster. In the past, athletes who withdrew from an earlier event were still allowed to compete at their later event. What they couldn't do was substitute at an another event.

Despite the ambiguity of the written rules, they couldn't possibly be prevented from competing at TEB given the obvious reason for the withdrawal. In this case they were lucky to have signed up for a third event, as otherwise they would not have been eligible for GPF.

Well, that's good, as I like and support them.

However, if SC is unable to fill the spot at the last minute like this, especially with so few spots to go around this year, it will be unfortunate.

I really hope that one of the American teams will be able to get there in time. :(

Did Pechalat/Bourzat give any reasons for their withdrawal?

I can't say for sure, but Fabian had horrible bronchitis at Skate America-- his cough was disturbing. He could barely talk for an hour or so after he skated due to the cough.

Don't they have to announce ahead of time which GP assignments they will collect their points from? Any idea which GPs P&B picked? Also which ones did W&P pick?

It's only two days to the competition. Within a week of the competition, Skate Canada would not be required to fill the vacancy, and probably won't.

According to the new rules, competitors with 3 assignments are allowed to choose the ones with the highest points. They don't have to designate the ones that will count ahead of time.

I hope he gets better, soon. That must have been miserable for him, and tough for her as well.
