Yes! :rollin::kickass:

Now let's hope that that the Chinese federation lets them out of having to compete on the JGP circuit! They could really use that extra time to train and prepare for the GP's.

I hope so as well. Good for them!

I really hope so, too. They're so talented. They BELONG on the Senior GP and the senior GP only. After winning a medal at the final last year, it's almost insulting to send them back to the JGP. It's also really unfair to the new junior teams since the number of spots in the final has been reduced. Unless S/H get another SGP, they will undoubtedly take one of those 6 spots. So really, only 5 are up for grabs.

ISU just needs to remove the rule allowing Pairs to do both Junior and Senior GP ASAP. :mad:

Good idea. Federations and athletes just have to make their minds between GP and JGP, no more straddling both!

ITA. Now that assignments are at a premium, make them choose.

Cross-posting from the US Pairs thread in the Trash Can:

Killing time on my lunch break, I noticed the Grand Prix selections for this fall have been updated: http://www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-136494-137802-nav-list,00.html

Denney/Coughlin have been assigned to NHK Trophy.

Do they still need a minimum score to compete in the GP Series?

No, not for NHK as split couple alternates, who "inherit" the minimum score of the old couple. (In this case, the higher of the former scores.)

They'd only need a minimum score if they were assigned to a TBD spot at Skate America, but not if they were assigned to a SA spot replacing another couple. (Top 75 without minimum score also qualifies for host assignments, but they weren't together last season.)

Hoffmann and Zavozin have withdrawn from SA and Chock and Bates have been added to the Skate Canada roster.

Let's see if Paul/Islam get SA. If so, then kwanfan1818's interpretation of how the alternates list is functioning is correct. :)

The ISU produced a really inconsistent 2011-12 GP announcement document. :wall: If they would just publish the alternates lists this would be a lot easier. ;)

I wonder if they really HAVE an alternates list, or whether they're just making these interpretations on the fly, or letting the hosting federations do so. (As a group, the ISU is one of the least competent rule-making organizations from an ambiguity perspective that I've encountered. If they'd switch to a "Draft for Comment" approach, they'd have been able to make this a lot cleaner from the get-go, because kind people from FSU would have been able to point out numerous inconsistencies.)

Not to mention coming up with the 17 scenarios they missed.
