I wonder if the delay is because USFS/coaches/friends are trying to convince Evan to change his mind. As others have said, there isn't anyone out there who would make a better partner for him, so it can't be about results.

I wonder if he has found he simply cannot relax skating with her anymore - that the total trust one needs in a partner is gone.

I've been wondering if this is the case, that perhaps they've been unable to overcome the the mental aspect of the injury. And if one accepts that, it's easy to accept that the delay in an official announcement was because they were in fact working with Evan to change his mind.

:(

This is the split I've most lamented.

I loved their skating and was so looking forward to what they would be doing with Igor and Marina.

Very surprising. Not very nice on his part to end it with her when she waited a year for him (if that is indeed true).

If he ends up skating with Chock, I wonder why he'd think she is a better skater than Samuelson?

I wonder if Igor/Marina encouraged this behind the scenes?

To what end?

Odd that there was no quote from Evan.

To what end?

Beats me.

I really can't imagine that Marina/Igor would think them splitting is a good idea, but who knows.

from the release on IceNetwork:

"We have enjoyed a successful partnership that would not have been possible without support from so many people," Bates said. "We want to thank our families, coaches, fans and all the people at the Arctic Figure Skating Club and the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club who have supported us during our time together."

:(:(Oh, I was hoping for some last minute , in the nick of time reconciliation. This is the most upsetting split of all.

Each split is painful. One after another after another just feels like getting smacked in the face over and over. Plus the Grand Prix changes. I feel beat up.

Many things are possible in the day in/day out working relationships that have little to do with results. It's not a given that S/Z motivated the split, but it's not inconceivable that they did, or once the skater(s) made the decision to look to the future and support the decision.

With the Moscow podium in their rink, a superlative track record in developing technical skaters and creating programs that are highly rewarded under CoP, and a slew of teams in the waiting at all levels, they don't have all of their eggs in one basket like many coaches, and they don't have to encourage teams to stick together under less than ideal circumstances because they are the only contenders the coaches have or the skaters anointed by a federation.
