I'm not disagreeing with you at all. My question wasn't quite rhetorical, it was pointing out that people screaming about three-fall skates winning over no-fall skates as if the latter is automatically better don't seem to really engage with what that means.

Understood. Yes for any change, the implications are manifold. I think/hope not many people here belong to the category that watches skating once every four years and don't get that a tough programme with mistakes is more highly valued than a clean one with very light content, and that they are arguing that point from a different perspective.

I don't know if anyone put this up on the thread yet, but this is Yuzuru's FS at COI

Lets toss this question out: does anyone think that Chan should've beaten Amodio?
^LOL!

Anyway reading the thread i think most people who didnt freak out by the magic number- 3 falls -didnt say Chan should not have won, but should have maybe by a less margin. Just that his marks should reflect -pcs marks and not only the TES - the three falls, because it does disrupt an interpretation, exection, performance etc etc. and cant be on the same level as his worlds 2011 pcs where he was spectacular. I dont think anyone is really saying that someone else wuzrobbed.

By the way my first reaction to the marks was why Daisuke got 78 on pcs, and thats about my only problem. If his so and so skate was reflected in lower pcs than he is used to- because when he skates good he can reach 84-then maybe Chan's should have also. I dont remember the pcs of Daisuke at worlds, but I thought that was low.
Of course my personal opinion was that Daisuke was far better in IN, P, E, thats why.

And his PCS were spectacular at Worlds: 91.52 for the free program

At Japan Open they were only 84.06. So he lost about 7 1/2 points of PCS between the two events.

He did. See above.

82.08
So he only lost about 4 points between the two events. But he had some problems at Worlds as well.

Those are the more subjective components.

Jeez, seriously? Yes. Florent's new FP is shocking. He's one of the young guys I'm hoping to see improvement from, and I don't think this is going in the right direction.
He can be so expressive and engaging, I'm not sure what the hell he's trying to express in that mess of a programme, whatever it is I'm not getting it. Going from exuberant skating to cocky posing is not a wise career choice.

Yep. Painful as it was, I was able to continue watching all the way till the 2nd step sequence, where he just stopped skating and I thought he's gonna withdraw. Nope, just doing nothing till he reaches the end of the rink to start the step sequence. That did it for me. What an insulting program and choreography. Shame on Morozov for ruining a great talent. I feel no joy watching Amodio anymore, just discomfort.

I really like Florent, but with that program he's make it tough for me to root for him, its last year LP, just different music and costume. We get it Florent, you can shake your butt :slinkaway

Which meant he was scored, on average, .75 less for each PCS.

I don't think that means very much. As defending World Champion, Chan will be training very carefully to peak at Worlds. I would guess that for other skaters not in this position it wouldn't be quite as important.

It would be worrisome if Chan was skating clean programs so early in the season.

I agree. It is a new program and has to be worn in and practiced. Doing events early in the season are part of testing it to see what works and what doesn't. It is a normal part of how skaters plan their skating year.

Me too. I fell in love with that Amodio. To me, one of Morozov's biggest crimes is ruining Amodio. :(
