Calgary Herald - Thanks, Betty Fox, for giving us the gift of Terry (http://www.calgaryherald.com/health/Thanks+Betty+giving+gift+Terry/4968867/story.html)

As a runner I had heard many times of Terry Fox's "Marathon of Hope" across Canada in 1980. I saw ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary "Into the Wind" a couple of weeks ago. I think Terry's story has to be one of the most inspiring running stories EVER!

Betty worked very hard to keep Terry's cause of cancer research going after he passed away. RIP, Betty. :(

Betty Fox was a true ambassador for cancer research after her son died. She put a tremendous amount of time, especially with school children. She was truly a great Canadian. RIP.

She truly was a great Canadian and a great part of what is now Terry's Legacy is in a great deal due to her and her hard work. I remember her and Terry's Dad bringing the Paralympic Torch into BC Place last March and thinking they could not have picked better final Celebrity Torch Bearers for the Paralympic Run than the Foxes.

My condolences to the Fox Family.

May she Rest In Peace. :(

Betty was also one of the carriers of the Olympic flag during the Olympic opening ceremonies. Just one of the many honours that indicate what a tremendous part Terry's Marathon of Hope plays in the fabric of Canadian identity.

Such a great loss, but her legacy, and of course Terry's, will live on.

RIP.

Yes, very sad. I was raised with Terry Fox in my consciousness. It was heartbreaking to hear a few weeks ago that Betty Fox was badly off with cancer and equally6 bad to hear she lost her battle. For it to be cancer... :(

ETA: I just read a more recent article that said the family denied Ms. Fox had cancer. The original story I read about her illness was wrong. I'm sorry for passing on false information.

Thank you, Betty. You made a difference. Thank you Fox family for giving up so much of her to us over these many years. She was such a great lady. You are an extraordinary family.
