So sad. :wuzrobbed

I loved their last two free dances, particularly how they performed them on the GP. Their choreography, use of theme, and ability to set a mood in their programs was top notch. I had hoped to watch them perform for several more years. :(

Wow. I didn't expect that.

Your nominations for next unexpected breakup/pairing:
1. Virtue/Moir break up, saying they have loathed each other for years and couldn't stand it any more.
2. Yankowskas pairs up with a completely healed and newly balletic Jeremy Barrett.
3. Inoue/Baldwin announce their intention to skate throughout Rena's pregnancy and broadcast the birth on Ice Network.

This is a really weird off-season.

I can see that!

I certainly wasn't expecting that. Maybe Vanessa just felt she was done and had achieved everything she wanted in the sport (going to the Olympics is a career-goal for many athletes, and winning Nationals another). On the other hand, after their quick rise in the ranks, their career wasn't going to continue that way and they must have realized it. At the GPF and the 4 Conts they were lucky to take their medals. They were surpassed by a couple of teams at Worlds. I'm not saying that they wouldn't have had a chance to come back strong and reach the World podium in the future, but it would have been difficult.

Wow this is a surprise. I thought they still had plenty of unrealized potential on the World level. I really liked their style and enjoyed seeing different choreography. I hope Paul is lucky in finding a worthy partner soon, since the building process takes so long. In any case I wish them both success with their plans.

What a shame. :( They were such a unique and interesting team. I looked forward to seeing their new programs every year. Good luck to Paul in his search for a new partner. Its a pity that hes not the one going back to singles. Hes beautiful freeskater.

:blinks: I admit, I wasn't expecting that one. I thought they'd made significant improvements over last year, and that they had a nice rivalry going with Weaver/Poje.

In the immortal words of Beavis and Butt-head, this sucks worse than anything has ever sucked before :(

They had great programs this year and I was really looking forward to seeing them develop into further greatness. But if Vanessa feels she has achieved what she set out to achieve, then more power to her.

I second the idea of Poirier and Chock. Make it happen!!
