There was a big hole in the middle of this case, ya can't prove that Caylee was murdered. One wonders if that impacted the verdictI would think so ... that was a very big hole. I doubt if anyone outside the one responsible will ever know what really happened. From the little I read/saw of this case, I had the feeling that Casey was responsible in some way for Caylee's death, but thought that it may not have actually been premeditated murder, but perhaps a case of abusive "discipline" that turned deadly. As I said at the beginning, I doubt if we will ever really know the truth.

Forgive me if this has been asked already, I feel ignorant-but what is the reasoning that DNA evidence can't be used? It's just a law?

I don't think there was any - someone reported upthread that the body was washed out and found much after the time of death.

I thought Cheney Mason did a good job. But I thought the prosecution at least proved Child abuse but the jury said liar not a killer or even abuser.

Nancy Grace irritated with her colleague, Dr. Drew, who stated he's "not surprised."

So if you are the mother and kill your child and do not report it......meaning no one finds the body until weeks later after all physical evidence erodes....You can get away with it. It apparently is that easy.

Or you meant reasonable doubt? Because I don't think they have to prove any case "beyond circumstantial". Circumstantial evidence is as valid as any other evidence. You either believe it or not.

I agree that reasonable doubt would be the more accurate term. But, in this case I think everything was unprovable and circumstantial, most notably, as KHenry14 says below, they couldn't even prove the child was murdered.

Those jurors better run home fast, as they are going to get hounded about this case.

Only the defense can appeal. Not guilty can't be appealed by the state.

That would be double jeopardy.

Unfortunately, the lawyers (yesterday) were right. I really didn't think that she'd get murder 1, but I thought they would get her for more than lying.

Just talked to my Mom, who is (naturally) watching Fox News -- she said Geraldo Rivera is having a shitfit right now.

I wonder what you would say about OJ's verdict...... It pays to be "what"? :D

If you can't be skinny, pretty and white.....better be rich (famous athlete or politician = added bonus).

Oh, all of them will start saying they knew that would happen all along.

Beyond a reasonable doubt is a large burden for the State.

While I don't think justice was served in this instance, out judicial system does work in the majority of cases.

She may not go to jail, but she knows what she did and so do everybody but those 12 people.

Will she go back home with Cindy and George? I would not be able to sleep at night with that woman under my roof.

That easy if you don't have a father in the picture and if you have the means to move away without piquing the interest of anyone who's close to the child. :o

I'd approach this in the same way I approach my lab work - the system/experiment worked, it just didn't have the result we wanted.

And nobody knows what happened to Caylee except for Caylee herself.
