I think he holds an honorary military rank. The medals would be unit (not individual) awards.

According to Wikipedia, he holds the following honorary ranks in the UK

Royal Honorary Colonel of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry
Royal Honorary Colonel of the London Regiment[30]
Royal Colonel of the 2nd Battalion, The Rifles
Honorary Air Commodore Royal Air Force Waddington
Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary

 The family are on the balcony as the Queen stands at the gates of BP watching the guard go past and guess who's stood next to Kate??? ;)

AH HA!!! I knew she wouldn't be able to resist the obvious way to get her mug in the papers tomorrow!!

I met Prince and Princess Michael of Kent when I was a penniless drama student in London. I was head usher at the Aldwych Theatre at the time and it was my job to look after them in the interval in a private bar. He was delightful in a stuffy, patronising kind of way but she was unbearable. Nothing was right for her, the champagne, the canopes, you name it and she ended up complaining to the FOH manager about me, thinking I had actually selected the drinks and made the nibbles. He basically told her to shove it. To say she was not amused was an understatement  I'm a royalist through and through but my loathing for her knows no bounds :EVILLE:

Poor you!! Why am I not surprised she acted like this though?

Oh Meg, Meg, Meg, sad really......one wonders what coulda/shoulda/woulda been if she had married Peter Townsend.......

I've always pitied Princess Margaret. She really did have a sad life full of "What ifs?" didn't she?

Two things I haven't seen mentioned here yet...

1 ~ What a wonderful surprise to see Lady Louise on the Balcony!! I think this is the first time that I remember seeing her for the Balcony Scene for TtC and she looked so adorable in her pretty pink dress.

2 ~ The Duchess of Kent was also there for the first time in a few years. I've always admired her and w/first the Wedding and now Trooping, so good to see her again.

I haven't seen any pictures of Beatrice today, but I have Eugenie. Sigh...When is someone going to take that girl aside and tell her to get a properly sized jacket so it doesn't look like she's about to "pop it open" if she takes too deep of a breath. I have the same problem w/a big chest, but it's workable if you just get the sizing right.

Then again...Considering what Fergie's fashion sense is like.... A shame too.

William looked so dashing on his grey dappled horse. Love a grey, as you don't see them often, but they're so striking in a group such as Trooping is.

Loved Kate's outfit and, I can't believe I'm about to say this, Camilla also looked good today as well. That choker she wore though....That's one of my favourite pieces of Camilla's jewelry collection. I think it's the Pink Topaz of the centrepiece of it. It's such an unusual colour of a stone for such a piece like that. Usually you'd see a Pearl, Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby instead, but the Pink Topaz works w/the gold of the setting and the pearl strands. It really is such a pretty piece.

Well...Day one of the weekend done. Tomorrow's the Service of Thanksgiving for Prince Phillip's 90th Birthday!!

I wonder if that is William's personal horse?

I don't think so. I think all of the horses come from the Royal Mews that the Royal Colonels ride. Don't quote me on that one though, as I really don't know, but I *think* that's the case.

Royal Insight ~ Trooping the Colour (http://www.royalinsight.net/british-monarchy/royal-family-attend-trooping-colour)

Quite the interesting little mention over there. Especially as this is a part of the Official British Royal Family website...

They were followed in a second horse-drawn carriage by:

H.R.H. Princess Eugenie
T.R.H. The Earl and Countess of Wessex
H.R.H. Princess Louise of Wessex

Which is right, but considering Edward and Sophie have chosen for their children to be known only as Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, even though they are legally HRH Princess and HRH Prince of Wessex....

It just strikes me as odd in a way.

There's also a YouTube video of TtC at the bottom of the page.

Kate wore that blue coat to a wedding a few years ago and I think the dress under it is the one she wore to the helicopter the day after their wedding.

Camilla looks to be wearing her civil wedding dress.

^ Lady Fred Windsor: Ok from the waist up, skirt WAY too tight (makes her legs look rather thick) and she's wearing Joan Crawford "f**k me" pumps. :yikes:

Perhaps Sophie & Edward had a change of heart re: titles?

LOVED seeing the Duchess of Kent! :cheer2: I miss her at Wimbledon. :(

Princess Alexandra oozes royalty (Thanks, Princess Marina! ;) ), she's just divine. :swoon:

OMG, I kept staring at this picture (http://www.daylife.com/photo/0dxvdG92mS0qN?q=Prince+Philip) thinking that that must be the UGLIEST hat Kate has ever worn - and then I realized that what I had thought was a mess of mismatching fur on the hat is actually somebody else's head, probably Prince Harry

Thanks, I was waiting to see pictures/coverage from the service.

I hope we all look as energetic and vital when we are 90, dear fellow FSUers.

LOL!!! Yes, that would be taking it too far.

I love the blue coat.

One of HM's cousins has written a book which is being serialized in the Daily Mail.

Today's excerpt details her time as Lady in Waiting to the Queen Mother.

I liked this part:

Later, I was deputed to register my aunt’s death at the Windsor registrar’s office. I was shown into the room of a rather fierce-looking lady and we went through the formalities while she ticked the relevant boxes.
At a certain point, she fixed me with a beady eye and asked: ‘Right, what was the husband’s occupation?’ It seemed a superfluous question. However, after a second’s hesitation, I answered: ‘King.’ I think Queen Elizabeth might have found that almost amusing.

Thank you for that! Boy, does Prince Harry resemble Prince Philip - it is especially obvious in the photo of Prince Philip as a young boy of about five. If it weren't for Harry inheriting the Spencer coloring, I would say he looks exactly like Prince Philip.

That photo comparison at the end of HMQ and DOE was particularly touching.
