Why don't the Obamas get briefed on the protocol? At least it wasn't as bad as the first time when Michelle manhandled the Queen and presented her with an iPod. This time they are keeping their hands to themselves and gave what sounds like thoughtful gifts.

The toast gaffe was another example of Obama's staff dropping the ball.
Doesn't the Queen's staff help with protocol?

That's what I would think: the WH staff would contact the Queen's staff ahead of time to get the details. Someone had dropped the ball. Again.

Actually, per AP, the orchestra dropped the ball. The director interpreted the opening of the president's remarks referencing proposing a toast as the end. He paused, so they started playing. Not the Queen's staff, not the WH staff--an orchestra director that should have known official toasts are longer than that.

The First Lady looks amazing.
Who designed her gown?

Ralph Lauren (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/25/michelle-obama-ralph-lauren-dinner-england_n_867060.html) :)

And Tom Ford the other night. I like that our First Lady wears American designers at prominent affairs abroad. :)

I was looking at pix of Winfield House online. What a beautiful building! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/93932737@N00/3533839229/)

Actually, I'd heard is that the toast to the Queen is usually very short, which is why when he said "To the Queen!" and made a pause, they assumed that was that.

Love that black dress and bling on Michelle Obama. Vast improvement from the first few outfits.

Loved that Ralph Lauren dress. :swoon: Winfield House was once owned by Barbara Hutton and is the second largest private residence in London - only Buckingham Palace is larger apparently. I read a biography of Hutton years ago and it stated that she gave the house to the US government at the end of WW2.

I wonder if there is a plaque that says "Cary Grant Slept Here". ;)

 I dug out the book and looked up the reference and actually she sold it to the US Government - for $1!

One thing I noticed, right after I was done admiring Kate's elegant Reiss dress (now available on eBay for the cool 600 "buy it now"), I thought she looked even thinner than she was on her wedding day.

Looks like I was not the only one: http://lifestyle.aol.co.uk/2011/05/25/has-kate-been-on-the-honeymoon-diet/

:( C'mon, Kate. I mean Your Highness, you don't have to be THAT thin.

Rita Wilson (http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/05/25/article-1390540-0C40F79D00000578-73_470x767.jpg) is wearing a gorgeous dress! Much better than that Oscars atrocity.

This weekend in The Netherlands will be the Official Celebrations of HRH Crown Princess Maxima's 40th Birthday. The Guest List was released today and can be found here at one of the best Maxima fan sites out there (http://translate.google.nl/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=nl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fanvanmaxima.nl%2F%3Fp%3D8332&act=url)

Can't wait to see the pictures from this weekend!!

edited to add...The Meningitis Trust in the UK celebrated it's 25th Anniversary today w/a little help from Sophie Wessex.

The Meningitis Trust ~ Our Royal Visit (http://www.meningitis-trust.org/about-us/news/our-royal-visit/)

There's not only pictures from the Event, but also video of Sophie unveiling the plaque to commemorate The Trust's 25th Anniversary.

edited *again* to add...Keep an eye out Saturday, as Barcelona plays Manchester United in the UEFA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. Crown Prince Felipe and Crown Princess Letizia will be in attendance and I can't see William not being there, as he is the President of the English Football Association. Not sure about Catherine, but maybe.

Anyway...Another thing to keep in mind for the weekend!! :)

Didn't someone else wear that dress to some award show over the past few months?

Didn't someone else wear that dress to some award show over the past few months?I thought the same thing and I sat here racking my brain trying to figure it out. At first I thought it was one of Anne Hathaway's 500 dresses from the Oscars, but I couldn't back that up. But then I searched the designer (Monique Lhuillier) and found Mandy Moore (http://graciellealexandra.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/mandy-moore-2011-oscars-red-carpet-06.jpg) from this year's Oscars. She looked way better in it than Rita Wilson did.
