Thanks Marge!!!!! And yeah, it would be great to finally meet up! :)

This is all I could find on the Australian Ballet's Swan Lake description:

This dazzling version, created by superstar Australian choreographer Graeme Murphy, gives this most classical of ballets a modern twist. Set to Tchaikovsky’s immortal score, this spectacular interpretation features a contemporary storyline full of drama, wit and passion.

It looks a bit odd, but no doubt I've seen stranger things on stage before. Like the Mats Ek "Giselle"

Marge,

I am going to Onegin on the 7th with a friend. Any chance you could swap to that night?

Alas, no. I have a whole bunch of random days off in May and June, but it's tricky for me to get Thursdays off, my regular coworker is usually off on Thursday.
If you are going to the opera thing, we will see each other on the 5th, right? :)
I swapped my Onegin ticket, so now I'm seeing that on the 4th. And I will see NYCB on the 8th.
Bayadere was brilliant tonight. I will post more tomorrow.

I can't argue with that.
It looks like this version of Swan Lake also has a scene in a lunatic asylum. What the hell, I'll try anything once, so I'll probably check this out. At least I will like the music.

Open at your own risk:
It looks like Johhny Weir attended ABT's gala last week. WHAT was he wearing?!

Marge I am trying to come on the 4th but I was sick last week and don't know if I can swing the day off. Will know tomorrow or Monday. If I do, lets meet for dinner.

Ok, I've decided to check out the voidy Swan Lake. If anyone else is seeing it, what day are you going? I'm working on Friday the 15th, so I can go Saturday (matinee or eve) or Sunday.

What are the dates? My arm might be twisted.

I just watched First Position on demand today since my plans to see it in the theater fell through due to Mini Ice's being unwell. :(

Anyway, what a great film!!!! Thanks for pointing out it's available on demand.
Impressions and SPOILERS:

* The minute I saw Joan Sebastian, I knew I was looking at the prime principal dancer material. WOW!!! What a talent. I wasn't even worried about him making it in the competition, piece of cake. It was clear he is going places. Look for him headlining shows any time now.

Gaya from Israel really impressed me with her modern piece, such raw talent and maturity, she'd make an amazing skater too, don't you think? Didn't love her Coppelia as much, not sure why.

Miko is exquisite. I think she is going places, she is so delicate and has the right everything for the job. It was clear from the beginning that her brother Jules wasn't going to make to, clear to everyone but the tiger mom. He'd better get into an Ivy League school or he will be disowned. :drama:

I liked Rebecca in modern pieces but less so in classical, I guess I am such a hopeless devotee of the Russian school that anything else just falls short. Le shrug. She was alright but not as amazing as the kids mentioned above.

Michaela, what a story! I really didn't like what I saw in rehearsal but when she performed in the final, she definitely had the spark and the stage presence. I just can't reconcile with the fact that she doesn't possess the body type required by ballet and that her core isn't strong enough to make her look delicate and effortless, yes like the Kirov dancers.

Aran is amazing in rehearsal but gets a little stiff when he performs. Nonetheless, what a talent! He is so graceful, masculine and accomplished at such a young age. Just awesome.

Some dancers they didn't follow but showed briefly: the one from China blew me away.

Again, thanks for letting me know about this movie, what a treat for this balletoman!

Here are some videos of the dancers featured in the movie:

Miko Fogarty 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsZep2Y6sZY)
Miko Fogarty 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pxJJcTDf_g&feature=fvsr)
Zhao Wan Ting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIA7XstHH3U&feature=relmfu)
Joan Sebastian Zamora (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXKNWoeYNXo)
Gaya Bommer Yemini 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA2spB2Isv0)
Gaya Bommer Yemini 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7vaJrbpC0E)
Michaela DePrince (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa4u8TmYPIg)--she looks a lot more elongated in the video than in the movie, hmmm.
Esteban Hernandez (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEsY3jEzdGg&feature=relmfu)
A compilation of winners, including Aran Bell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNI8Tu3aJMo)

Mind blowing talent.

OMG. I was just thinking that I want SF Ballet to hire some of the above and voila: Zhao Wan Ting is one of our own! AND I'd noticed her during the Nutcracker performance last year, even mentioned on this thread (http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3411203&postcount=344) but messed up her name, must have been thinking of Caroline Zhang.

But--WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! If she is promoted to principal instead of the horrid Vanessa Zahorian, I swear, I am buying season's tickets. Why the hell is she still in the corps????!!!! She is principal material.

I'm planning on one of the Saturday performances but trying to get my friend to commit before buying tickets. Leaning toward evening, which I figure (hope?) will have fewer children. :shuffle:
