Is anyone planning to see Eifman's "Rodin" at City Center this weekend?
I'm going on Sunday; I think this looks pretty awesome. Most people I mention Eifman seem to either loathe his ballets or think the man is a genius; I'm firmly in the latter group. :)

Marge,

I blush to admit, but I don't think I have ever seen an Eifman ballet. I always intend to go to one and something always gets in the way. Yes, please, do post a review.

My coworker nagged me into checking out Eifman several years ago and now I'm hooked. If his ballets were available on DVD I'd snap up all of them.

Keep nagging me and maybe by this time next year I'll get it together.

Les Sylphides should be done with very precise technique, rolling through the feet, with very quiet landings. Which is hard because the music is soft. .

Yes! I saw the show twice with different cast members and thudding spirits (when it comes to their landings) really killed the mood.

I don't know most of the dancers, but Kathleen Breen Combes (in the Balanchine piece) was with the Washington ballet for a short time, and I thought she was very talented. She was very young then.

She has lovely lines and danced the Wheeldon piece with her husband, so there was some nice chemistry there. I liked Lia Cirio better in the number, though and think she really shines in the modern pieces.

A clip from Eifman's Rodin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbx95br4x6M&feature=related

Looks amazing, for those who love Rodin. And among others, he uses our good old skating warhorse, Danse Macabre. ;)

If you have a download add-in on your browser, grab it quickly -- the trust gets this shut down on a regular basis.

Thanks for posting; that was a wonderful stroll down Memory Lane - so much more fun than the sink full of dishes and the laundry that are calling to me.

Could be good news for NY Ballet fans: Polina Semionova is leaving the Berlin Staatsoper Ballet at the end of this season. Malakhov has agreed to release her early; her contract ran until the end of summer 2013.

The press release, dated 7 March, was posted to the company website:

Of course, Canadian figure skating fans get first dibs: we did say "Send us a Polina, any Polina."

I saw the Emerging Pictures Bolshoi Ballet "Le Corsaire" HD today. All of the pirates wore mullet wigs.

Grigorovich's love of wigs :wall:

It wasn't transmitted to my city this time :(
Will have to wait for the videos...

 You should have been more specific in your quest for a Polina and requested at least 4 different triples to go along with the name. Although she could maybe turn out to be Katherine Healy v2.0?

Boston Ballet did Rooster choreographed by Christopher Bruce to several Rolling Stones songs last week. Loved the modern choice of music (well, by ballet standards :P) and I didn't even mind some of the Broadway-influenced group lifts. And Lia Cirio is just :swoon:-worthy in all modern dances.

Is anyone going to the YAGP this year? Last year's was a snoozefest; so I decided I'd skip it this year.
But today I found out Jose Carreno, Yoel Carreno (his brother) and Yonah Acosta(Carlos Acosta's nephew) will be performing.
I hope it's not sold out; I'm going to try to get a ticket tomorrow.
