He's 35 and she's 15!? WOW.

Good luck to them, though! I'm interested to watch them for the first time.

There's some exhibition videos of them on YouTube from last year.

Not quite (the top three at Euros should beat the top three at 4CC pretty easily, imo), but pretty cool to think of nonetheless (the level should of competition CAN be high if everyone skates well).

re: E/L vs D/R - D/R benefits from the high level elements/jumps. They absorbed all those errors like crazy (similar to Sui/Han). E/L's three jump passes (short and long) scored less points then D/R's first jumping pass in the LP (or their SBS jumps in the short). On top of that, they gave up an element in the long program.

I take it they aren't a "real team". He's her coach, and with the lack of Sr pairs in the US right now, all they had to do was pass the relatively basic Sr pair test to earn a trip to Nationals. Maybe they look at this "free trip to Nationals" as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Obviously, it's probably really hard for her to find a pair partner, especially one of a similar age/ability, in Minnesota.

Wow, this is an even wider "age gap" than Calla & Rocky. Can't wait to see them.

Calla Urbanski & Rocky Marval were fairly close in age, AFAIR?. Now Mary Beth Marley & Rockne Brubaker is another thing.

I hope they do well. What age must she be for them to compete at Adult Nats?

Wasn't Calla around 31/32 (though she looked younger) and Rocky 24 or 25 when they arrived on the scene as a sr Pair at 1990/91 Nats?

21.

US Figure Skating Adult Nationals is open to all test-qualified eligible skaters who are 21 and older by the deadline.

Now that the pairs section is active again I was wondering how pairs teams are doing going into nationals?

Hello Fellow FSU'ers,

I'm going to be covering the senior pairs competition at Nationals for Skating magazine. In addition to covering the top-ranked pairs, I'm planning to do a few short pieces on some of the other competitors. I'm not familiar with the newer/lower-ranked couples, but I suspect some of you are. If any of you have any suggestions on which athletes (competing in senior pairs) would be interesting to interview, please let me know, I would appreciate it. Perhaps I can interview them. There are undoubtedly many great "human-interest" stories out there.

Thank you :)

Cheering for all the (rest of the) pairs skating today! :cheer2:

Especially Marley/Brubaker, as my inner uber demands.

Yay for the silver, bronze and pewter medalists!! I am so glad that Gretchen and Andrew skated so well! I just wish that they were assigned the 4CC spot, hopefully they will get more international assignments now next season. Their LP is just breathtaking!! Rockne and Mary Beth were great, so happy that Rockne will be going back to Worlds. This really was the year for Amanda and Mark to step up and earn that National title, whether or not they come back next season I will always remember them for their wonderful skate at 2010 nationals and the Olympics and respect them tremendously for sticking together through all these years.

Donlan and Speroff are gorgeous. If Gretchen can learn to land her SBS jumps, I can definitely see them being US champions next season. I hope they get senior GP assignments, they are really lovely! They almost remind me of a Russian pairs team, and their balletic style is just a breath of fresh air amongst the other top US pair teams who are more athletic.

Donlan/Speroff are good but come on, US champs next season? Not happening. It's quite obvious which two teams USFS are banking on. And they both have the goods to carry on to Sochi.

Also, I love Evora/Ladwig, I'm just afraid that their chance for the title is gone. If they come back next year they are just going to have to have the technical content, as good as their PCS is, it won't carry them to the title without the technical. Such a lovely, lovely team, though, and it's a testament to them to have skated together so long. They deserve every accolade they get.
