 I haven't seen the King's Speech yet, but this quote made me LOL! And ITA with your sentiment. Folks bemoaning his choice of a CW drama vs. period films - It's not porn for goodness sake. Money may be the motivator, but perhaps variety is the primary factor here. if I were an actor I'd get bored quickly with doing period films all the time. Why not throw in something different on one's resume if the opportunity presents itself?

Not all British dramas are period films. I think even modern British dramas tend be more nuanced then American dramas, especially those on the CW. JMHO.

Reading what GarrAarghHrumph said in regards to pay of US shows vs. UK shows certainly sheds light on at least one reason why British actors would want to branch out into Hollywood.

Hey, I've got nothing against making hay while the sun shines. :) But the CW doesn't get that many viewers -- I don't care about buzz, I'm talking actual numbers -- and from what I've seen of their shows, most of them pretty much stink on ice. Also, he's done some feature films, and I would think they'd pay much better than the CW.

But maybe the film offers have dried up, so if this is what he wants and what works best for him right now, more power to him. Everybody's gotta eat, even dreamboats. And who knows, maybe this show will be better than most of the CW dreck.

Great to hear about Nikita - I thought I had heard it was toast so when I watched my PVR'd season finale I was quite sad thinking about the lost possibilities in the new beginning they had set up. Now I can happily look forward to seeing where they take it.

Up-thread there was mention of Hawaii 5-0 and Lost and that reminded me - did anyone else notice that they used the creepy something-ominous-is-about-to-happen music from Lost when McGarret was about to open the drawer in the old desk?

The season finale of "The Mentalist" was really something!
Another show to "puzzle over", all summer.

I suspect The Event is a costly show to produce given the size of the cast. I too wish it would come back. It should have learned it lesson from LOST and started in January and run right through with no break. Ah well. Here's hoping they'll at least come up with a 2 hour TV movie to wrap up the cliffhangers if nothing else.

Hubby and I are also part of the "hopeless". I am keeping hope alive until next season.

The United States of Tara has been canceled! :( I love this show! I have no idea if they will have time to write and film a good ending. I think the season is only 12 episodes and they have already aired 6 or 7 of them, if I am not mistaken. I would assume the season finale has already been filmed and now it will have to work as a series finale. Normally I don't need my shows to have a perfect ending with everything answered but I feel it is important with this show. I hope they can find a way to give the show the ending it deserves.

Watched tonight's episode and I am guessing they did know the show was coming to an end. A new alter has popped up and he is killing off the others. I am guessing/hoping this ends with the alters killed off (actually a sad thing, as they all wanted to help Tara) and Tara and the final alter somehow putting an end to all of this with just Tara left.

After watching the finale of The Event, I really hope some network picks it up. SyFy, Netflix, anybody! It's getting to good to go off the air now.

But LOST didn't do that until either Season 3 or 4...after the season where all the networks did a crazy fall rollout with tons of breaks for their shows and audience response was...not good.

That's my point. They saw what happened to LOST in the first few seasons, saw what LOST did to remedy the problem, but didn't learn from it. Why did they think that a break in the episodes was going to be any more well recieved than when it happened to LOST?

It's a shame too. The EVENT really stringed together some strong episodes on the back end of this 1st season, but they lost too many people that never came back after they took a lengthy break.

Watching Martinez wife refer to the "Others" planet (Hee, hee - had to fit in a LOST reference) as "home" left a huge open question. I know that POTUS suspected his wife of being one of the others, but last night was the confirmation. And now we may never know what's next. Bummer.
