Heart shaped arms and cheesy melodrama is like, the entire point of ice dance.

I can't argue with you there.... :glamor:

if only there was a shred of melodrama in the dance... my point exactly was that the dance was empty and totally emotion-free. And yes, at the same time, extremely cheesy. Well, not Mahler kind of cheesy, but still.

It was cheesy, but it did not try to be cheesy to Mahler :cheer2:, which is a redeeming quality in itself, and if you are cheesy to something that is meant to be cheesy then you are doing your job well.

While I wouldn't say the dance grew on me (it was chintzy the whole season) I do think they made improvements to it (at the beginning of the season, the lifts were squashed together... it was ridiculous). I think the sheer crapitude of that FD was the biggest reason I wasn't that offended they were left off the podium. A massive step down from Phantasia, imo.

Thanks for posting :)

Joining the ice dancers in Canton, Caitlin Yankowskas, the U.S. pair champion [with John Coughlin] who placed sixth in Moscow, had a week-long tryout with Italian skater Matteo Guarise, a former world roller skating pair champion who trained under Oleg Vasiliev last season. Pair coach Adrienne Lenda confirmed that no decision has been made on the partnership as yet.

I hope she doesn't settle and and waits for someone up to her standards. I have a bad feeling MG isn't it.

Ooh, I'm looking forward to V/M's Funny Face! That's some terrific music. And the Shibs' Glenn Miller program, too.

Looks like all D/W, V/M and the Shibs go in the same direction with their FDs, there's gonna be similar mood in all of them. Cannot say I like these choices. I'm not a fan of the 40s and 50s film music.

I really wish these teams would do something more different from each other. Again, I'd love at least one team to leave S/Z's camp. But well, a girl can dream.

sections of last season's free dance in their SD

Makes sense since their FD was essentially an extended generic latin OD.

:scream: :blah: :( at the music choices so far.

No worries, I love it enough for both of us. :D

I like it too, I just hope the Shibs change it up next year or the year after that. I don't want to see them get stuck in a style.

I like 40s and 50s movie music just fine, but I would have liked to see the Shibs go a different direction this year. I think the "Uplifting Music" rule is throwing people off.

I think V/M's music sounds good for the OD and I'm wondering how I'll respond to a shortened version of that program. I liked the Hip Hip Chin Chin section, but not the other two, so I kind of wish they had just kept that part. I really like the movie Funny Face, so I'm curious to see what they do with that program.

Tobias doing the jitterbug :scream:

Chock and Bates seem to have the most interesting music selection of the Canton group, but that's not saying much.

In general, I'd like to see some music choices with more power. My favorite music selection this year so far is Jason Brown's short program, which could be nice for a FD.
