I read that Shawn sawyer is going to do all of SOI tour, so this will mean he will miss worlds. Does this mean he will lose his eligibility like Plushenko did or they will make an exception?

Skaters don't lose eligibility by simply skating in SOI, though few actually come back to skate as eligibles. Plushenko's case was different. He pulled out of worlds due to an injury and skated an exhibition 2 weeks later. The ISU did not approve of that. As long as a skater does not compete in cetain competitions (but skates in SOI) he/she does not lose eligibility. That's AFAIK. I don't know of any changes to the eligibility rules.

I would think Worlds would be more important to a skater who's still in the eligible rank.

Yeah but his life in the eligible ranks is basically coming to an end, and he needs the recognition (since his results arent spectacular and lets face it, he isnt a top 10 contender at Worlds either) so he can make a living in today's show skating world. Its a wise choise for him, but very hard also.

Considering that we all complain about the food at the rinks, why can't Zhulin?

Yeah, I know I complain all the time. Also, it doesn't seem like what he is saying is much different than what most people (Americans and non-Americans) complain about American food in general.

He also had the skate of a lifetime with a signature program at Canadians. Quite possibly, he knows it is unlikely that he will repeat that performance and anticipates that skating at Worlds will be anti-climatic. Which could make him less motivated to push the training forward in order to still complete at Worlds and more ready to move on to his post-amateur life.

Well Shawn did skate this program again internationally at Four Continents and much as I love to watch him skate anytime, it did not achieve the magic of his Canadians performance. Perhaps for him it was the writing on the wall that he was unlikely to make a major splash at Worlds no matter how he skated. Or perhaps representing Canada internationally again at the Four Continents was enough fulfillment of his competitive aspirations.

I am so sad not to see Shawn and his kick-ass programs at worlds. Also sad not to see those finally landed 3-As. Best of luck to him. I have really enjoyed his skating. I wish him nothing but happiness.

Now confirmed that Sawyer is out and will be replaced by Reynolds. (tweet from Lynn Rutherford)

Right choice I guess, but sad to see him not give it a final shot when he has finally gotten the lutz and has the axel mostly under control. He had a good shot at top ten (unless the UR monster catches on again...)

Suppose 4CCs was his swan song then?
