I was thinking--what if some kind of natural disaster occurred right around the time and place of the Winter Olympics? What would happen then? I suspect they would have to move the Games to the following year, for various reasons.

If that happened, there's no way they could re-organize the Winter Olympics in another country in 1 month, which is essentially what Russia is doing with worlds. As big as worlds is, the approximately 200 athletes participating pales in comparison with the 2,622 athletes who participated at the Vancouver Olympics. Plus, there could technically be a figure skating worlds in the summer, because the indoor artificial ice can be created at any time. With the outdoor sporting events at the Olympics and weather/temperature issues, there is a only a certain window and a period of time when those outdoor events can be held. Miss that window, and you would have to postpone it to at least the following winter.

I think what the IOC would do is to ask a previous Winter Olympics host with all the infrastructure already in place (i.e. Salt Lake City, Torino, Vancouver) to take over, but they would have to postpone it to the next season/year.

now, the specter of didier as ISU president... smells a lot like another one of speedy's brilliant machinations.

No it doesn't. It rumour mongering by one poster with no evidence to support it.

David Dore wants the ISU Presidency. That's why he quit the Skate Canada Presidency, joined the ISU Council, and got himself elected Vice-President of the ISU in charge of Figure Skating.

Didier isn't a member of the ISU Council and therefore is in no danger of running for President. And he'd have to climb over David Dore to do it.

I wouldn't want to be the person who tried to come between David Dore and anything he truly wanted. But I'd certainly buy tickets to watch it unfold.

It's official that Yu-Na Kim will be there.

ATS, her management, announced that she will focus on training for Worlds in Korea and asked Peter Oppegard to join with her.
And her Ice show, "KCC switzen All that skate SPRING 2011", will be held as it was planned.

Here's an English language article that says the same:
http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/sports_globetrotting/2011/03/kim-yuna-will-go-to-rescheduled-figure-skate-worlds.html

``I’ve been busy with various engagements in Korea since my return,'' Kim said in a statement from AT Sports, her management company. ``But I hope to regain my focus and amp up my training so that I can devote my full attention to the World Championships from now on.''

In an email, Helen Choi of AT Sports confirmed Oppegard will be in Korea to work with Kim at the Korean National Training Center.
