Song spoilers for tonight's episode (thanks again, Allskate!):

1. Lauren Alaina – Any Man of Mine (Shania Twain)
2. Casey Abrams – With A Little Help From My Friends
3. Ashthon Jones – When You Tell Me That You Love Me
4. Paul McDonald – Come Pick Me Up (Ryan Adams)
5. Pia Toscano – All By Myself
6. James Durbin – Maybe I’m Amazed
7. Haley Reinhart – Blue (LeAnn Rimes)
8. Jacob Lusk – I Believe I Can Fly
9. Thia Megia – Smile (Michael Jackson)
10. Stefano Langone – Lately (Stevie Wonder)
11. Karen Rodriguez – I Could Fall In Love (Selena)
12. Scott McCreery – The River (Garth Brooks)
13. Naima Adedapo – Umbrella

Thumbs up to Lauren, Stefano, Karen and Naima for their choices. Thumbs down to Ashthon, Pia, Jacob and Thia. Your thoughts?

ETA: Polls enough allow 12 options, so I put Ashthon and Naima together as they (along with Stefano) did not garner enough public votes to get into that group on their own. And as Stefano doesn't have competition as being the only "pop male" option, I expect he will go farther than these two ladies, so gets his own option. If a moderator can expand the poll, that would be appreciated!

Well Naima has the dreaded 13th spot which will give her a phone number ending in 36 instead of 13. So she will almost certainly be going home regardless of how she does. It makes me sad for her.

(Konspiracy or not?)

I think Lauren's might work for her. I hate the other ones. Though to be fair, I suppose we should hear them first.

Sucks for her. Just give someone a number ending in 13 and quit harping about how 13 is bad luck. Bull shit, there is no such thing!! This is like a self fulfilling prophecy, saying 13 is unlucky so we change the number which almost assures you will go home which means it is unlucky, afterall.

What a novel idea! ;)

I thought they had to change the 13 because that number was the number for some phone porn.

You would know this how? :watch:

Well what do you know, it sure is! I called 1-866-4365713 and sure enough it is a porn line. However, AI could buy that number so easily if they would just put up the dough. I'm sure by now it is too late as they would probably demand who knows what for a number that would only be used for 1 week but if they had tried to purchase it right away I bet they could have come to a deal. It really screws a contestant and they should avoid a top 13, plain and simple.

Dreaded? It's my understanding that Naima sings last which is usually saved for one of the best performances of the night...if not the best performance of the night.

I don't think it matters what the phone number is...if the number ends in 08 or 36, a person still has to manage to hit the right buttons on the phone. This might be better for Naima as some callers might press 05 when they meant to hit 06. With Naima's number, there will be no confusion. :D

This has been discussed in previous year's threads. From what I remember, the people who own that phone number would only sell it to AI for millions upon millions of dollars. AI kindly declined their offer. :)

I don't think the phone number will matter that much this time. Many people have unlimited text, and I think Naima's fanbase might be heavy online voters.

The pimp spot is not saved for anyone. It is supposed to be a random draw and the only person not eligible to go last is whomever went last the previous week. So there is no saving that spot for the producers favorite or for whoever looks best in rehearsals. I really do believe this because many contestants have spoken about drawing for performance slots.

The number could matter because people don't always listen or pay attention. They know Naimi went last out of 13 people and they may try to dial 13. HOWEVER, if they listen they will hear that they dialed wrong and figure out what the correct number is or they can vote online and/or text.

I remember that during S2, Reuben or Clay got the pimp spot every week, the audience called shenanigans, and then thereafter they "attempted" to be fair and alternated it, and it usually worked out that the pimp spot was reserved for either the best performance of the night or one of the best performances of the night. S9 kind of obliterated that, so now I kind of do think it's random with respect to where they performed the previous week, although probably still subject to producer manipulation.

I suspect the producers exclude certain numbers from the draw. I would not expect 1 and 2 to be available when Pia draws, for example.

New backup singers this season. Steven is pretending he doesn't drool over Lauren.

Lauren did just fine.

Solid job from Lauren. I agree with Steven. It wasn't extraordinary.
