I agree that the point spread between V&M and D&W should be higher, especially with D&W being a bit shaky. I think that to repeat as champions unfortunatley V&M will have to :kickass: and count on perhaps another shaky set of twizzles (at least) from D&W.

Yep, I think V&M should have not skated this season, why bother, I mean clearly the judges are not going to give a World title to a team performing the FD for the first time all season.

That makes it better though, since they will know D&W won by default in a sense.

Also D&W lucked out skating last, do they pick their order after the SD?

I don`t think so Carmen the fd is totally different D&W have one of their weakest fd`s basically every ice dance specialist that has seen tessa and scott fd says it could be one of the greatest of all time. Tessa and Scott have to skate their best and let the chips fall.

I agree Lissa everything being set up for the D&W victory and not sure if skating last is a good thing they`ve never been in this position before they might be tight especially if tessa and scott skate lights out.

I'm not sure how that happened. For the past few years or so the skating order went in reverse order of standings. I remember being  when the ISU went from a random draw to the reverse standings IIRC to make it more suspenseful for the viewers. Or something along those lines.

I'm not sure why the change this time around. Unless the ISU went by current rankings and V&M haven't competed all season except for the SD at
4CC's.

Really? Wow, I hadn't read that. I loved the first moment Tessa and Scott were able to perform at 4CC's. Let's hope they do skate their best and as you said we'll just have to see what happens.

I didn't find V/M's program boring at all; I found it to be completely charming and beautifully performed. (But then, I am a fan).

To me, it has the same kind of appeal that the Shibutani's free dance has - elegant skating, done very well. I wouldn't want V/M to do this kind of thing, all the time, but as a one-off program I found it thoroughly enjoyable.

Regarding V/M skating for gold, I have to think that there is far less pressure on V/M than there is on D/W. V/M already have a world title, plus their comments in interviews suggest that their focus this year is far more on the skating than it is on the outcome. That could work in their favour, because it may allow them to skate with greater freedom than D/W.

Thanks for the heads-up about the PBP thread.

Summary of the thread: "V/M are boring" "V/M are boring" "V/M are boring"
and every poster apparently thinks they are making a useful and interesting contribution to the thread.

It's quite funny (and a little bit sad).

I agree. I prefer V/M's skating over D/W's, but even if V/M comes in second tomorrow, it's not that big of a deal. V/M are already Olympic and World Champions, and they've demonstrated last year, when it counted the most, that they are the top ice dancing team. They don't have anything really left to prove now except for the desire to show more of their skating. It's a pleasure for us fans that we get to see them continue at their highest (or close to their highest) level.

Here's Golden Skate article on the SD:
http://goldenskate.com/articles/2010/w_sd.shtml

Many feel that Elena Ilinykh/Nikita Katsalapov may be future world champions. Here is what Elena Ilinykh had to say about Tessa and Scott in the Golden Skate article:

"In general we are very happy about our result," shared Ilinykh. "We got very high points. Of course we had some small mistakes, but the ice was fabulous and it was very easy to skate."

"We are so happy, that Tessa and Scott (Virtue and Moir) managed to come," she continued, "because even to watch them train is something unreal! You just see where you should aim because they are brilliant - a true couple."

They did a draw for the FD, after the competition and right before the press conference.

Ok, OT, but I REALLY want to see the big showdown. Does anyone know of any live feeds I could watch?

Guys, honestly only Weaver-Poje and Capelinni - Lanotte SDs wasnt boring....
Maybe T-S was boring, but did this posters at FSU saw there soft skating? Nobody skate like this two today.
Dont know, but i saw in T-S skating more freedom, then at last year WCh. Hope they still compete in next season, because they are still so good and they still improved.
Good luck to all of us today ;)

I just wanted to say that I totally agree with Carmen that there seems to be a general belief that V/M win medals based on politics and that, because their programs are boring, they shouldn't win. I think there are also a lot of people, though, who appreciate all the excellent qualities of V/M's skating but aren't grabbed by their programs. That's likely to happen to any team who's been at the top for a couple years. (Similarly, I think Yu-Na Kim is being held to a higher standard than others because people expect great things. As a result, when her choreography is less than amazing, people will say it's boring.)

Judy Bloomberg's comments leave me with mixed feelings. I certainly did see a lot of snow at the beginning of the walk around in the golden waltz, so that is true. Her comments about slight edge mistakes might actually have made more of a difference last year, though, when the judging was different. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this year the Golden Waltz level is only based on very specific steps. Only these ones have to be done right to get the level. The other steps obviously have to be done and done well, but one slight mistake outside of the "important steps" might not change the GOE. Oh well, I guess like all commentators she shows a bit of favourtism. I can't really complain about that because the Canadian commentators do it too (and annoy me with it all the time).

Anyway... V/M's program. I really like it! It's certainly not the most exciting thing I've ever seen, but it's a waltz-based short dance. I'm not sure how much room there is for original/exciting choreography. I like the waltz much more than the tango, though, mostly because I think the waltz music is gorgeous. Good for them for finding some really unique pieces! As geoskate said, if they did this program every year then that would be annoying. I don't think they have, though, so I appreciate it!

Plus, their free dance is going in a very different direction. I can't wait to see it today! I really don't care about the outcome. D/W's program may not be my favourite, but they are very well-trained and excellent skaters. If they win, they win. It would be amazing to see the US win its first ice dance gold. I'll be happy in any case :)

(Okay, this was way too long. Sorry, it's very early in the morning!)

That and this could very well be the best shot D/W may get at the world title. If V/M come back and skate fully trained next season, I'd expect them to be on top and who knows when some of the younger teams break through into the top tier.

I haven't heard that either but I have not fully watched D&W and of course haven't seen V&M. I don't think the judging is rigged but I believe there was just a recent article where Scott said this program is for them this year not necessarily the fans due to them overcoming the injury. No matter what happens today I think it took a lot of guts to come back when they could have just waited out the season and returned fully prepared next year.

Regardless I am DYING to see this FD .. we've been waiting since November!

Oh man I am getting so nervous now it's FD time.

I hope Tessa and Scott nail it tonight to make up for my million depressions of attending the 4CC FD live.

Go Princess Tessa & Stud Moir!
