Dad just showed up at the nest with a fish and is feeding the eaglets!
:cheer2:

I stayed up until nearly midnight last night hoping he would show up, but then needed my bed. I am so happy that he is taking over the feeding - I can just imagine the delight on the live comments!

I haven't been able to get into the live feed since I got up this morning, but one of the moderators posted:
6:45

MVK:
I am not here to answer questions right now but wanted to post that Dad has brought in a fish at 6:40 a.m. EDST. He did not start feeding immediately but waited, as if expected the female to return and feed. He has now started feeding.

:respec: Let us hope he can keep it up! :cheer:

Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries biologists have decided that it is in the best interest of the eaglets to remove them from the nest and relocate them to the Wildlife Center of Virginia. The removal operation will take place at 10 a.m.

I'm sure the kids will be okay. So sad for the male - loses his mate yesterday and today the kids disappear.

I'm sure it's for the best, but I'm just so sad for all of them at the moment, getting their lives uprooted. I wonder how long the male will keep coming back looking for them; I see that they plan to keep the camera in operation so we might see him.

Oh noooo.... :( :( :(

I feel so sad because she died, but also sad for the father. Now he's lost all his family. :(

They've been a pair for a few years, right? Do eagles find other mates easily after something like that happens, or not?

They've been together 9 years and had raised 20 eagles successfully. Very sad for the father. :(

Nine years?! Wow. I thought it was around 3. I hope he's going to find a mate soon. Probably not this season, though.

We tend to project our human feelings on animals while we don't really know how and what they feel, but I do hope they don't feel heartbreak because this is awful.

Somebody posted this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cU5mcxF2pc&feature=youtu.be) of when dad came back to the nest for the first time after the eaglets left. He apparently stayed for about 20 minutes altogether and left a fish. A few hours later he came back for just a couple of minutes and took the fish with him.
