Thanks! I didn't realize Kika had another litter! I see the note that this will be her last.

Sad news. The Norfolk mother eagle was hit and killed by an airplane this morning.

Oh no, that's awful.

They've been such a delight to watch.

I hope the male Eagle is ok.

A decision will be made tomorrow on what will be done about the eaglets (http://www.wvec.com/my-city/norfolk/US-120702329.html)

“We are going to be watching this nest very closely over the coming days to see if he is able to provide regular feeding for the chicks,” Lukei stated.

The adult male eagle has been seen in a nearby tree Tuesday afternoon but has not been seen at the nest.

"These eaglets are right on the edge of being able to feed themselves if something is brought to the nest, but we will be watching to see if the male helps them eat. If he doesn't, they will likely have to come out of the nest,"

Someone on facebook went to the NBG this afternoon. He posted that the male eagle is in a tree close by the eaglets, but that he keeps looking back at the airport. I bet the male doesn't realize the female is dead and won't be coming back. So sad. The middle eaglet was born on my birthday.:(

^^^^

You beat me to it. Been crying a bit worrying even though there's nothing to be done. He's going to be very busy. At least they're just about to the point where they will be eating by themselves and he can just bring the food to the nest.

I think one of the moderators said it's gonna be a least 1 week before they're able to feed themselves...you're right he's gonnna be a busy eagle.

If you'd like to "light a candle" in Momma Eagle's honor: Just click on a candle that's not lit and follow the directions.
