Interesting interview with Russian Deputy Minister of Sports, Nagornekh. Some radical changes to the figure skating team. Soviet style! I guess all these coaching changes are part of this process.

Zhulin, Gorshkov, Linichuk didn't even make the list of coaches; probably they are under etc., :yikes:

Offhand, it's Alexei Mishin, Tamara Moskvina, Nina Moser, Lyudmila Kalinina, Svetlana Alexeeva, Elena Buyanova (Vodorezova), Nikolai Morozov and others.

also missing:
Vassiliev
Svinin/Zhuk
Platov
Urmanov
Rukavitsin

esp. surprised at Gorshkov being left off

As for the list of coaches: I think they count only the ones in Russia, the "head coaches" in that new system, with better priviledges. Linichuk and Platov are working within the free market system- Federation will pay them if needed, but they are not going to supervise the "Olympic readiness" of the athletes in Russia.
Leaving Zhulin, Svinin/ Zhuk, Vasiliev is telling ( neither in favor of Russian skating "inner circle" or coaching immediate Sochi favorites) Then again, it was not an official list- we'll know more when the whole list is known.

It just all rubs me the wrong way... Will the athletes of "head coaches" get preferential treatment at national competitions? Might happen.

So close, but in that case, I wouldn't have picked him either.

No Zhulin or Gorshov ??? I don't get it. They are the best ice dance coach russia has at the moment. all the others can't teach their students to twizzle for one thing, and they produce CRAP.

I have a feeling this whole thing is a move that is, in the longterm, somehow, going to backfire on the RSF.

Why are B/S allowed to stay with Kustarova group when they did not do well either and they were the no.1 team from Russia. I think Pissaev is pushing Zhulin knowing well that he can't move out of Russia since he has commerical interest in Russia like the TV shows in Russia...

It wasn't Russian FS federation or Piseev who pushed I/K to leave. It were skaters themself and their parents. B/S wanted to stay with Kustarova. That's the difference

Funny, I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that Zhulin is not in the federation little papers since he obviously made clear he didn't get WHY he had to let P&B go while dear Morozov could keep his own foreign students ... :hat1:
And in ice dance, you NEED the support of your federation. Ask Belbin & Agosto.

That's exactly what I've been thinking too. It's just this sense that this is all going to backfire on them.

I thought he went back to his family business. Oleg said the training schedule was too much for him. I thought he was a beautiful skater with Maria I wished they stuck it out longer, I think the national result was very discouraging.
