I can't see Gorshkova/Butikov being around much longer. They got leapfrogged by Bobrova/Soloviev, among others and will get leapfrogged even more with the batch of young talented Russian ice dance teams.

A translation of Leonova's interview by Vaitsekhovskaya in which she tells about her switching to Morozov: http://en.alena-leonova.ru/publ/a_new_life_of_alena_leonova/1-1-0-41

Interesting interview with Russian Deputy Minister of Sports, Nagornekh. Some radical changes to the figure skating team. Soviet style! I guess all these coaching changes are part of this process.

I don't see anything like this in the interview.

There is one radical change: we will not be able to receive :sekret: information on the programs of (almost) all of the Russian skaters/couples at the end of August as usual, because instead of holding a single test skate for everyone, they'll send the specialists to several cities. :drama:

Of course, I am assuming that the term translated as "Control Car Rental" by Google Translator is indeed test skate.

Or the Russian government plan for world domination includes buying Avis and Hertz??

You are right and I'm impressed that you pieced it together correctly!

All the context was there, so they could as well replace "test skate" with "tomato ketchup", it would still be clear. ;)

Sochi is starting to depress me. I am not fond of so much government control over athletes. Designated "head coaches"? Already presuming to know who'll be main podium prospects in Sochi?

What I am curious to know is what Zhulin's next move would be ( assuming the news about I/K are correct). The Federation really messed things up for him. In his interviews earlier this year he was saying that if working conditions become unbearable, he'll go to coach abroad. So what will he choose? Lots of money, doing show choreography in Russia, with fame, fortune , but no star students? Or will he go abroad and start anew? I imagine he'll have to decide soon (at least for next year).

I am also curious about this. If I were him, I will stop coaching Russians and stop dealing with the Russian Federation. Do shows, get money, and enjoy life. And karma is a b*tch. It will hit them some day.

If good dance teams from other countries are interested in him, he should just coach them abroad.

I don't know if I see Zhulin moving outside of Russia. He just got married and has a young daughter with Navka. Those are things to consider.
