Wow they all look amazing - happy & gorgeous.

And yeah, Averbukh is basically a business genius. Without being the biggest name in Russian skating (or having a lot of money initially) he managed to create a super-brand. I am curious to see what happens within the next 10 years, but my sense is that Averbukh & Co. will only get bigger in Russia.

I think he is a brilliant producer with very good ideas and probably an astute businessman. He has completely changed the prospects of figure skaters in Russia and has put figure skating into the spotlight.

I do agree that Averbukh is all of these things. I guess I was seeing some of his success from the viewpoint of a Russian friend who told me that "no one gets started with anything in Russia without knowing someone."

ETA: Berezhnaya looks incredible, she keeps getting better and better. I always thought she was pretty but she's been looking especially gorgeous the last few years - love the long hair on her.

I have had a girlcrush on Elena Berezhnaya ever since I first watched her at the Nagano Olympics in 98. I think she is one of the most beautiful women ever :)

I am so glad that Averbukh has popularized skating in this way and created more opportunities for professional skaters. It's a great incentive for more youngsters to get into the sport to see that fame and money can be had even after you're done competing :)

He "knew" Bosco team who helped him a lot at the beginning of his business.

I hope she skates better at Worlds. Doesn't look very promising to me, and neither her or Makarova's form convince me one bit:dog:
Let's hope they're able to keep 2 spots for next year:slinkaway

Leonova needs to channel whatever she did for the Euros LP.

(((Leonova))) The Russian Fed will drop her like a rock as soon as all the youngsters are age eligible. If she skates in Sochi, I'll eat something. I'd say my hat but I don't wear hats. Maybe a glove.

Her big change of getting a medal was this yearŽs Europeans. well, she got a small one, from the Free.

Alena needs to land all of her jumps if she wants to skate anywhere, leave alone Sochi. This year she didn't really have the rivals for Euros and Worlds spots, only very inconsistent Sofia. Next year she will have rivals for sure. Three Polinas, Anna and Rosa will be age eligible, so this year Worlds is probably her last chance

I agree with this. And even though they are both inconsistent Ksenia and Sofia will also be in the mix for those spots, and when they are on, I personally at least think they are better than Alena. So lots of competition. After next season, Alena may even be in jeopardy of getting 2 GP assignments. Next season she should be ok as I think Polina A and K, Anna, and Rosa will likely do JGP again, but the following season, they will likely move to seniors along with other talented girls.
