A thought just occurred to me. With worlds 2011 in Moscow (with the most recent announcement) and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, there would be a lot of excitement in the FS community in Russia and we could see a resurrection of Russian figure skating in the near future. They already seem to have a lot of young talent, especially among ladies.

Radinova actually reminds me a lot of Anna Ovcharova because they are both spunky and musical, although Elena has more consistent jumps with better technique, which is where she's like Liza, although that could change with puberty.

I agree, that's why I love Anna, Lena and Liza - they have something in common :)

btw, are there any news about Anna? How is she doing now?

I think TAT brought her up in conversation when Russian Nationals were being held, saying that she had recovered from her surgery and started training lutz and flip again and intends to participate in the JGP next season. So that sounds like good news. She may have had a rocky season like Gao and Shelepen had she not been injured anyway, just due to growing pains and being overwhelmed by Liza and Adelina, so hopefully her taking the season off won't have too negative of an impact. She's so great to watch!

Unfortunately Sinitsina has Bobrova's posture issue, but since she's younger hopefully she'll have corrected it in another five years. Zhiganshin, OTOH, is just one year younger than Katsalapov, so he can't be qualified as "baby" Katsalapov. ;)

So much talent there! :cheer2:

I think it's not Bobrova's issue, it's Kustarova's group issue. So if they stay where they are she won't correct anything.

BTW girls' partners have the same issue.

Hmm. Thanks.

I don't think Soloviev and Zhiganshin have the same issue as their partners. The problem with the girls is that they pike at the waist, which looks bad and leaves a gap between the partners while skating in holds. The two guys don't pike at the waist and seem to have good lower back tension but they have slightly round shoulders, just like many other male partners. Actually Zhiganshin starts piking slightly when he is tired, but that is probably a stamina issue.

I really enjoy Zhiganshin's skating. He is sure on his skates which gives freedom of movement to his upper body. Sinitsina is not there yet. OTOH the footwork from both of them is remarkably clean for their age. :)

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Interesting how differently we see the boys;)

Tell ya, Kustarova is a very strong technician.

RIA Novosti: President Dmitry Medvedev urges big business to donate to sports projects (http://en.rian.ru/russia/20110331/163305219.html)

Alexander Gorshkov, president of the Figure Skating Federation, said extra funding was vital for athletes training and receiving medical treatment abroad, which is not covered by the state budget.

The one she used at Euros made her look like an old lady. It wasn't flattering at all.

The dress will be shorter at Worlds. But the same dress.

Rukavitsyn said that Makarova will go to the US after the Worlds, on May 15th, but only for a month to take her school exams. Then she will be back to St-Petersburg to keep training there. She got adjusted to her life in Russia and doesn't want to come back to the States.
He also mentioned that now she can jump the combo 3F-3T, but they decided not to risk and at Worlds she will be with her old combo 3T-3T.
Menshov is keeping his sport form because he is #1 to skate if something unexpected happens with Gachi. Kostya was quite upset when he couldn't enter the Russia World team. But next year he is planning to do better, which also means that he is not going to retire.
