Yo Yo Ma and Jackie Chan were there too. And Vera Wang.

And Maya Lin, Bill and Hillary, Jimmy and Rosalyn, Barbra Streisand, and Anna Wintour.

She needs to find a new designer who can help make her look less like the walking dead.

Vera Wang's own dress choices have seemed rather :scream: to me.

Aren't costume and fashion designers notoriously bad dressers? Or did I make that stereotype up?

Sarah Hughes often seems to favor cocktail dresses that are just an inch or two too short, but Michelle Kwan seems to just as often go for ones just a bit too long. This is a beautiful dress -- and she's got the figure for it -- but I think it would be absolutely spectacular just above the knee.

Perhaps in a different setting. But above the knee might be pushing propriety at a state dinner where a long gown is the norm.

Anna Wintour looks pretty harsh too in the photograph from the dinner. I don't think that hairstyle does her many favors, and the jacket on the dress is meh. And she's supposed to be the queen (or wicked witch) of fashion.

I thought about that too but then this is a State dinner. Not sure about the above the knee hemline policy.

No, they were serving apple pie for dessert. :P
Well, I heard that Michelle had smuggled in a piece of chocolate cake--guess security was half-baked. ;)

Michelle Obama's dress was interesting but I thought she could have left out the black wrap. I suspect His Excellency The President of China dyes his hair.
