here is an excerpt of the book: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/40967867/ns/today-books/

Doesn't that sound like he is finished his competitive career and not coming back?

Yes. It does.
Reading this excerpt I was at times thinking "gag me with a spoon!"... but finally, at the end, I just thought "Good Lord, he's so young!" He's so full of himself, but I can excuse it because he's so young and he's so driven and so excited about what he's doing. It's just a little bit too gushy... and a little bit too revealing. I don't want to know that he's thinking he's special because he has a better seat than Liza.

I have such mixed feelings about him. At once I think he is amazingly talented and has the drive and the courage it takes to lay it all on the line and to make it big (beyond skating), and at the same time I think that I just can't stand him! I shudder at his referring to Vera Wang as his competition - as if he and she were in the same league! Johnny's costumes make me cringe... talk about tasteless... whereas Vera Wang's costumes are the epitome of elegance and class as far as I'm concerned. But again, I toss that up to his youth... he is just starting out... and I only want to encourage him to grow. I just think I'll like him more 20 yrs from now than I do today... maybe not.

ETA: I don't mean to diss those who like Johnny's costume designs. I just personally find them horrid, but I know that fashion is personal and we all know that what suits one may not suit another. And I'm no fashion czar! :-)

If this is real - it was from Aunt Joyce - then Rudy Galindo has been making some snarky comments about Johnny's book.

I will wait to read more reviews before I decide to read the book. A few reviews by Weir's uber fans will not convince me to buy the book. However, the excerpt that I was read was not interesting and was poorly written.

Oh yeah, and maybe the person who's never heard of Sarah Jessica Parker, Vera Wang, Anna Wintour and Elton John should get out more. You must either live in solitary confinement or a nursing home.

It wasn't the posters here who made the editorial decision to identify these people in Johnny's book. Maybe you should be sniping at his publishers instead.

Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread. I looked and didn't see it.

He has apparently released a single (http://fitperez.com/2011-01-10-johnny-weir-releases-new-single-exclusively-on-fitperezcom/?from=PH). I gagged a little.

I'm laughing at most of the comments on here from people who are so judgemental about the book before reading it on the basis of a couple of sentences. "This book sucks. It's all about fashion and B list celebrities. Uh no I'm too cool to buy it, I just read an excerpt on FSU." lmao or "I'd rather read Paradise Lost"?!!! Did you really think a figure skater's memoir would hold a candle to a classic like that?!!!
It is not about being judgemental but rather looking at an excerpt and deciding whether it is worth reading. You should be able to pick up any book and get automatically engrossed in it if it is worth anything. The excerpt posted, which is quiite substantial, was very poorly written and came across as the writer being very shallow and narcasistic. It did not make me actually like the person nor want to make me want to know more about them.

It is like the trailer of a movie - you should want to see it after the preview because it all costs money and you want to get your money's worth.

I'm laughing at most of the comments on here from people who are so judgemental about the book before reading it on the basis of a couple of sentences.

I downloaded a 31-page sample from the book. The sample included the excerpted prologue and some of the first chapter.

I don't find it appealing because of the writing style; a little adjective restraint would have gone a long way toward making the book more readable. It has a bad case of the "sounds good," as I call it.

I don't know if I will read it or not; on one hand, I'm sure he has some interesting stories to tell. On the other, that last paragraph of the Prologue alone is enough to make the whole book look unreadable.

I'm leaning toward reading it if it's in the library and not if I have to pay for it. Sorry, Johnny, but :yikes:, dude. Less is more when it comes to adjectives.

Yeah, that's been posted here before. I hope Johnny had fun with that.
