I don't see how constant coaching changes are going to help Caroline. The technical flaws in her skating are such that they will require a lot of hard work and likely some poor results to correct. It seems Caroline and her mother are looking for a quick fix that is not going to happen. As it was, Gambill had done wonders for Caroline's 3F technique, which really speaks to her credit, IMO.

Yep. Scott Hamilton once said of Nicole Bobek's 8 coaches in 8 years something along the lines of "with so many voices wandering in your head, the question you have to ask yourself is 'who is right?'" Unfortunately for Caroline, she needs so much more skating help than Nicole ever did. If Zhang had Bobek's basic skating and presentation ability, she'd definitely be making US World teams.

I really liked Gambill, she worked miracles for Zhang!

Caroline and her mother run the show. Any coach is just a figurehead.

Sigh. So much for her really taking the time, knuckling down, listening to criticisms and truly fixing her faults.:duh:

Shocking news. I hope it's not solely based on a bad GP season?

If this is true, it's just like Mira Leung, and we know how that ended. Sad.

What do you base such a sweeping statement on? It takes a lot of experience and work to completely change the technique of a jump (3F). You think she and her mom figured it out themselves?

that's too bad. Her new coach was doing a great job fixing her flip. Hope she keeps working on fixing her jumps.

Caroline just has to many weaknesses to be a factor at these Nationals or any others to be quite honest. Her speed is lacking and nothing about her skating stands out. Plus i hate to say it but she looks really chubby on the ice. Not sure if that's just her body type or if she can get into better shape.

Maybe Peter can restore The Pearl?

With 3+ years until Sochi, I can't help but think it would have been better for her to just skip this season and do a complete overhaul of her skating. She's made great strides with her 3flip and with the right mindset, coaching and work ethic I think she could have pulled it off. All these coaching changes however, scream quick fix and Caroline's skating needs a lot more than a quick fix.

Shame. IMO

So you really think this is fiction? Even though the tweet linked to Zhang's USFS bio, which now lists Oppegard as her coach?
