Ryan Jahnke all the way. Nice, kind, patient with knee-knocking, tongue-tied baby skaters. Baby skater went away with stars in her eyes. Rohene Ward close second for same great fan interaction.

I had a really great conversation with Donald Jackson at this years Skate Canada. We talked about Tricia Shubert of all things and came to the agreement that Figures (patch) and Figure Skating are really different sports.

Who's Tricia Schubert?

Franz Schubert's little-known sister, who was a pioneer of figure skating?:P

I think JanetB was referring to Trixi Schuba...

Who's Tricia Schubert?
Trixia Shuba is the greatest exponent of figures ever.

Did he sign it or did he just hand it back to you?

Yeah, he did sign it. He was reading while signing. I bet he was sorry he signed though. I didn't mean to dis him, my notes included many positives... oh well!

Loving these stories! :)

This is a great thread. I've met several skaters and all my experiences have been positive.

I was checking the photo on the side and Johnny must had noticed the look on my face. He came over and asked me if the photo came out okay. When I told him no, he immediately offered to pose for another.

This exact, same thing happened to me at 2009 Worlds. So funny!

Picture it, NYC, 1999.

Champs on Ice lets out and I make my staunch, stalwart better-half stand with me on 33rd St by the buses.

Me: "Wonderful performance, Mr. Galindo!"
Rudy: "MISTER Galindo? I'm not that much older than you!" (ETA: Just two years! ;) )

Me: "Herr Steuer? Your autograph, bitte?"
Ingo: "Harumphdfghfgjhflss"

Me: "Mr. Swallow, may I please have your autograph?"
Jerod: "Sure. You want my wife's, too?"

Me: "Ms. Butyrskaya! Yoo-hoo, MARIA!!! Over here! Ms. Butyrskaya, may I have your autograph? I'm SO very happy that you won Worlds!"
Maria: "Thank you! I am happy, too!"

What a doll!

Maria mentions later in an article that she was surprised that she was "famous" in the States!

I'm like, lady, I'm stalking outside of Champions on Ice, of COURSE I know who you are!

lol I once asked Alban Preaubert to get Brian for me so I can have a photo with both of them (and I really was too shy to disturb Brian while he was sitting in the stands, watching practices) and he totally did too :)

so where did you take him anyway? ;)

I took Daisuke Takahashi to an tv interview. We had to use an unusual route in the ice hall to get him there quickly without meeting fans and other journalists.
