I searched around and didn't see anything about this...sorry if I'm repeating. Does anyone have anything definite about whether Dai-kun was/is injured from the collision with Taka?

This blog says maybe (and also references a press conference I'd really like to watch. The TEB pressies are on YT, does anyone know if the GPF ones are too?):

Aside: LOVE that Japanese tv features skaters and rush to interview them when arriving at the airport (though that must get annoying). Wish skating was popular enough for that in the US!

EDIT: Found a clip of the press conference, but didn't know how to delete this post...

^It was reported at Practice reports (http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2979992&postcount=27) on GPF thread.
And someone posted the collision moment Youtube link currently deleted.

Does anyone have anything definite about whether Dai-kun was/is injured from the collision with Taka?

Dai said he was in a bit of pain but it wasn't such a serious injury, just a bit of bruising. He thinks he still should have delivered a better performance and the crash is no excuse. Taka took all blame on himself, said he feels he messed things up for Takahashi.

I admire their gentlemanship and gracefullness.

The accident was widely reported in J-press

Thank you both, very helpful!!

I don't have access to the GPF thread, so that's probably why I missed it (I was so certain someone must have thought this a topic to discuss!). What kills me is that Taka does flick a glance to his right, albeit briefly, and Dai sees him way too late. And then that awful sound from the crowds...!

Anyway, my only collision experience -- not so bad as this one (can you imagine if Taka had been at a different point in the rotation??) -- gave me a bruise that lasted ~2 weeks. Hope Dai has a speedy recovery and Taka can forgive himself an accident!

Thanks again :)

US takes its figure skaters for granted, or many don't care or aren't interested. Japan is just coming into its own with figure skating, and winning world medals, so its a big deal there and skaters who do well are stars. In the US, they are just another drop in the sports bucket. Not to me of course!

I hope Kozuka will get over it. I was hoping his win at TEB would give him more confidence and now this happened.

I agree.
I saw an interview to Takahashi after the crash on TV. He said to the interviewer, laughing, " It was nothing. I am totally OK. Really. Glad that Takahiko is OK too." Obviously he was very protective toward Kozuka. He is such a graceful sportsman. And even though Kozuka won a medal there, he looked he was only 10% happy about it, because he thought he had caused Dai's bad skating.
Both are graceful sportsmen. I hope they will get over the unfortunate accident soon.

I really admire both (I have an especially soft spot for "Taka"). This is what good sportsmanship is all about, and I wish them all the best at Japanese Nationals (good thoughts for Nobu, too).

I really like how Takahashi said that this has shown him he needs to train harder in his practices. He doesn't blame his performance on anyone but himself. I admit, I am impressed.

I feel bad for Kozuka. I can understand why he feels the way he feels. So harsh, to suspect that you caused your teammate's poor performance.

I would not be surprised if the crash was what affected Takahashi's performance. I was wondering that as I viewed his long program. But what gentlemen, all around. Very sportsmanlike.

Well Taka should not feel so bad as Dai was able to do his SP without the crash affecting him, so he is probably correct that Kosuka was not to blame in any way and it was more about his own lack of overall conditioning to get through the longer freeskate...

Such an unfortunate accident for sure, but I really like how both of them reacted after the collision.
Like many of you said, very sweet and sportmanlike. :respec:

This coming Japanese nationals will surely be a nail-biter, but I like how Team Japan always respect and care for each other off the ice. :)
A bit OT, but I really liked how Miki, Takahashi, Kozuka were all supportive and encouraging toward Mao after her bad skate at Japan Open this year...
They are soo cute together!! :D
