Bulanhagui skated a pretty clean SP at Nebelhorn Trophy in September (her jumps were 3Lz+2Lo, 3S and 2A) and her 2nd place score (51.20) is her highest SP score of this season so far.

51.20. Hmm. With at least 4 or 5 ladies capable of scoring 60 points or higher (national scale) it's gonna be tough for her to make the final group unless there are mistakes from multiple Contenders (think Wagner's meltdown in 2009). Nagasu, Flatt, Czisny, Wagner can do 60...Gao, Zawadki high 50s. Zhang, not sure.

I take it Mel B will need the SP of her life + help from the top to make top 6- although making it to the 2nd to last group (and therefore on TV) isn't out of the question I guess.

It's going to be tough for sure, but I certainly admire her drive and ambition.

I think she might have to go for the 3A in the SP. If the jump is called 3A<, she'll still get more points than a clean 2A, right? The risk of course is getting the jump downgraded. That's the worst possible scenario.

That depends on how Christina Gao does at Nationals, and how often she's hyped leading up to Nationals. :P

Hey now, I like other skaters too, like Mirai and Amanda and Samantha! A podium of those three and Christina would make me :swoon:

I don't know her consistency on it, but isn't the worst case scenario FALLING on it? Then she'd clearly be out of the running.

Well falling on a rotated or under-rotated one would still be better than getting a downgrade...then she's only down to a 3.3 base value with - GOE.

Baga's latest tweet:

KiriBaga I'm not allowed to be jumping yet, but I love being able to skate... even if it's just a little. =)

Oh hush, it's ONE program at ONE event, she has been skating well at every other competition so far this season. You don't know what will happen at nationals.

^ I'm pretty certain her lack of experience will hurt her at Nationals. Moving up from a junior to a senior program will also hurt her stamina.

Well, Gao finished 5th in her senior debut at Nationals last year after competing on the JGP and at the Final. All skaters have rough skates from time to time -- they're only human. Let's see what happens in the FS tomorrow for Christina, Kristiene Gong (who had a decent SP performance today) and Yasmin Siraj.

Kristiene performed quite well today. I underestimated her talent. She has a a gorgeous lutz. With a decent flip and a touched up axel, she could be a top 6 spoiler at Nats.

I also think it's too early to write Gao or Siraj off. They both obviously performed way under their ability today. Let's see how they do tomorrow.

I agree! It's just one program at one competition and they could still be fighting jetlag, etc. Also it's Yasmin's first big international event so it would make sense that she was maybe more nervous than usual, and as for Christina, she has clearly grown up a lot in the past few months so it's pretty impressive she can do a 3-3 at all after that kind of growthspurt. Wishing them all good luck tomorrow!
