Opening tonight's thread here in ZT. I hope we can stay on topic and discuss the dances, performance level, judges comments, and generally snark about the show here. As for the inevitable foray into politics, I've opened at thread in PI for those who would like to discuss the influence of the parent of one of the contestants on the voting.

I can't imagine why Joel Grey needs a thread in PI, but okay. :P

As for the inevitable foray into politics, I've opened at thread in PI for those who would like to discuss the influence of the parent of one of the contestants on the voting. I don't exactly understand why would that qualify as PI-only discussion. Are you going to protest any other discussions of "the influence of the parent of one of the contestants on the voting" or just those who are politicians? Bristol's mother is the celebrity factor in this case, so it doesn't terribly surprise me that people talk about that.

I haven't been following DWTS threads too closely, but is Bristol the only person whose background/family/etc. has been talked about aside from her dancing? If not, I don't see what the problem is. Unless people are trying to discuss Sarah Palin's policies/political career/etc. here, I don't see how they couldn't mention she's Bristol's mother or the influence she might have had on her daughter's place in the show. After all, if it hadn't been for her mother, Bristol would have never appeared on the show in the first place.

I agree. It's Bristol's backstory as "Dirty Dancing" is Jennifer's.

Exactly.

No, there has been a ton of family stuff over the years. Spots on people's kids, spouses, significant others, etc. There was family background when Marie and Donny Osmond were on the show, with Kate Gosselin whose whole story is her family, wtih Sara Evans' divorce which caused her to drop out.

Ah Sara Evans. The :saint: family values queen who was promoted over the :EVILLE: Jerry Springer as all that was right and perfect in the world. Of course, her champions didn't know about her hubby's love of porn.

I think the real story is Jamie Lee Curtis' obsession with Jennifer Grey (and her love of the camera). :P

I think there's a threesome going on with Grey's hubby. :sekret:

Isn't it sad that that happened to her? I know you're not actually laughing at the fact that a woman's marriage was ripped apart, because you have too much class to make fun of someone's pain just because she's different from you.

Anyone object to a thread JUST about the performances? I personally don't want to wade through that many posts that are more about the voting than the dancing?

Plus, that style doesn't really work on FSU. How exactly would you incite everyone to talk only about the performances? What about people who want to talk about other things related to the show? Want them to start yet another thread? That would be already 3 threads about the same week of the competition. A little messy, if you ask me.

I snark equally. So, nope, what got me was her going along with the party line while knowing full well what was going on at home. I felt bad for Tony (her partner). Didn't she make some crack about his heritage on her 'goodbye' interview?

And no, I'm not getting into politics here. I'm just not a fan of sanctimonious bs and holier than thou attitude. Oh, and her paso sucked.

 This show is all about the voting. The phone numbers on the screen after each dance, and a special segment recap at the end with the numbers, the constant ads for AT&T texting throughout the show, online votes etc.

It is the show.

Not many of us are. :shuffle: However, I think we can all afford to show a little compassion.
