I heard that contestants are chosen while waiting in line to get into the studio, and the most boisterous people are chosen. Wonder if this is true.

There is a formula for it. If you are in a group of 10 (or 20, I can't recall), someone from your group will get called. If a military uniform is there, they will get called up... and usually a sorority girl/college girl/large chested girl also. Then there are about 2 spots for 'the others'. My guess is that Piper was the college girl. It is a LONG day, and it is hardly worth it... trust me.
