Yup, mostly because that team is a disaster and they had no other choice.
The team is outstanding! The disaster is the owner, Dan Borislow. Brianna Scurry is gone so there is no front office to speak of & no ability to get the word out about the team, the players have filed grievances against magicDan, he still demands that everyone avoid the media. Yet, the players constitute one of the best accumulations of talent in the sport. This alone is bringing fannys into the seats. Or sittin' on the grass. Whatever.

MajicDan has had choices. He just screwed up all of them. He seems to think that he can actually run a team composed of some of the best woman players on the planet like he runs & coaches his daughter's U13 tournament travel team. He's wrong. I only hope that WPS survives him.

You are right NJL, I was speaking about the ownership and I should have been clearer about that.

In fact, it's a bit of a miracle that the team isn't losing every game 10-0 considering what they've gone through.

Losing by 10-0 with the players he has seems a bit much, but losing 1-0 or 2-0 is certainly possible, all thing considered. I do hope that things work out for these women. They deserve better. In the meantime, I hope South Florida shows them the support they deserve.

The Serie Super Cup between Milan rivals AC & Inter will be played in China's Birdnest Stadium this weekend. While we may as yet get another chance Rubin Kazan beat Barca because the Tatars has made it into the CL for the third time I believe. Meanwhile Rangers crashed out of their qualifying match when two players got red carded and are finished despite a 1-1 draw and someone named Malmo will be in the CL instead. Joining them will be Benfica, Twente, and Zurich.

Over 70,000 people attended an FC Barcalona v Chivas de Guadalajara friendly at Sunlife (Landshark/Dolphin/Joe Robbie...:D..) Stadium near Miami. They saw Barca lead 1-0 at the half, sub out over half the team in the 2nd half to wind up losing 4-1 to Chivas......The last part of the game was a youth game with both sides putting out players from their youth academies. Several of the Chivas players sported uniforms with 3 digit numbers; 104, 103, etc...

The most interesting aspect of the game was how good some of the Chivas players are. Their 1st 2 goals, by #8 Marco Fabian, were incredible gems.

NJL (..who did not attend....IMO, the ticket prices were far to high....but at least 70,080 of my neighbors disagreed with me....I hope TPTB at MLS noticed...;)...)

ETA: MLS was there, they sponsored the event, and they were favorably impressed. Now, if only 10% of those fans would consistently go to Lockhart Stadium in Ft Lauderdale to support the Strikers we'd be on our way to having MLS return to SoFl in 5 years or less. Maybe...;)

A friendly between the DUtch and the English have been cancelled because of the rioting, and other sporting events are also in question. Too bad.

USA 1 v 1 Mexico in a "friendly" played in Philly. Mexico dominated the 1st half. Embarrassingly so. The USA got it's 1st shot on goal in the 57th minute & slowly took over the game from there. From the 65th minute on the US was constantly on the attack & scored in the 73rd minute. They should have scored again, but didn't....:(...Still, they came back to earn the tie after playing very, very poorly in the 1st half.

Next up is a "friendly" vs Costa Rica on Sept 2nd in LA, then Belgium in Brussels on Sept 6th.

NJL

ETA: As an example of why the USA & Mexico don't play "friendlies" occurred after last nights game. Landon Donovan gave a fairly lengthy onfield interview on ESPN. As he walked away to go to the team USA locker room he got bopped by a water bottle thrown by a Mexican fan. Team USA's fans tried to teach this passionate lover of the sport that this was extremely rude & unacceptable. Unfortunately stadium security broke up the lesson before they could make their point fully understood.

Cesc Fabregas is set to leave Arsenal for Bracelona while Semir Nasri is said to be leaving for Manchester City. Meanwhile the drama over Carlos Tevez continues. He has expressed a strong desire to leave the club but so far there seems to be no takers. Manchest United on the other hand seems to be giving 20 year old David de Gea a chance to prove himself a worthy replacement for Van der Sar. Only time will tell is he will eventually make the cut.

Well, no one expected this transfer....

http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/mls/story/robbie-keane-signs-with-los-angeles-galaxy-designed-player-major-league-soccer-081211

It means that the Galaxy will have to rid themselves of either Beckham, Donovan or JP Angel as they can't have four designated players. Rumor has Angel leaving, possibly to CDCUSA

No kiddin'....

I wondered where Keane was going to play. I thought it would be somewhere in the EPL. I guess not. Odd he'd go to the Galaxy. Unlike Beckham & Angel it doesn't seem he'd fit there, he's not the LA type. But, hey! why not. The $$'s good & the climate ain't bad either.

Angel to Chivas,OTOH, does makes sense. He'd make a good fit there. He seems like a Chivas type.

Keane is looking for a good retirement location is my guess.
