A friend of mine is working on this! She's no one important on set at all, I think she is helping in the costume department, basically a Gopher. But she's still working on the project!

Very excited for this!

*whimpers*

She's a Gopher in the Costume Dept!?! All of us who fell head over heels in love w/the LOTR Costumes (and have tried to reproduce them) have been hoping things would go forward w/The Hobbit and what Nigla is going to come up w/this time.

She's so very lucky.

Now to see if the LOTR MB I belong to and Mod at is back up. Anytime I've tried to get there today, I've gotten a message the board is down due to Techincal issues. I hope this news didn't create such a rush that we broke the board. :D

I've got my fingers crossed that they've been able to work out the scheduling conflicts, and have cast Martin Freeman as Bilbo. He would be perfect.

I think I was doomed to hate the LOTR/Hobbit once I was forced to read The Hobbit as an 11 year old in school...

Really? That's too bad. I loved the Hobbit. It had much more humor than LOTR.

The Hobbit definitely have a different feel but it was a lot of:

talking, eating, walking, walking, eating, TREES!!, more eating, walking, TROUBLE!!, walking, hunger, GOLLUM!!, walking, walking, SPIDERS!!, talking, ACTION!!, eating and the end.

It doesn't matter, she gets to actually be that close to such intricate costumes. I didn't care about movie costumes until LOTR and the new Star Wars trilogy (that's pretty bad, considering the latter).

Actually, right now the only stumbling block left is the Actors Union in Australia and New Zealand telling their actors not to take part. The situation is so serious, there have been rumblings of the production leaving New Zealand. It's looking more hopeful of a resolution to all of this happening though and things staying in New Zealand.

I actually loved The Hobbit after being forced to read it in Grade 6. :P And ironically loved it so much that it made me not want to read LOTR (silly me) throughout my young adolescent days because I loved Bilbo so much and I had heard that it was all new characters in the LOTR so I couldn't bear to read it.

Now after reading it, I realized how much I missed out on the enjoyment of reading it in my teen years :(

I can't wait for The Hobbit to start!

"The Hobbit", which re-creates the scenes of the novel with additional events that make an impact to "The Lords of the Rings", will be split into two parts. The first film is scheduled to arrive in December 2012 while "The Hobbit 2" may come out a year later.

As of late, it has been said that production of the two movies may shift from New Zealand to a location offshore. These adventure films will be shot back to back and in 3-D.

Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield

I don't know who this is, but he'd better kick butt because I adore Thorin.

Theatregirl, if you've ever seen BBC's production of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South (http://justperioddrama.com/Films/North%20and%20South/Index%20-%20North%20and%20South%202004.htm), then you've seen Armitage. He created quite a stir as romantic lead John Thornton. Definitely a dish. :swoon:
