Saw footage of them building the running track and laying the turf in the main stadium today. The athletics starts tomorrow.

:yikes: at how long the English anthem goes on for, poor athletes looked rather uncomfortable!

Oh and apparently that debris was some kind of beattle. :slinkaway

:scream:

Sticking with the pool, one of the most interesting stories so far is Geoff Huegill's weight loss of 45kg.

Whoa, Huegill's only 30?!! [well, 31 now, that pic was March 2009] The guy's got one of those fat-man-waiting-to-happen (again) faces. He got silver, today in the 50 fly, behind a Kenyan who looks like he could have hailed from Utah.

:shuffle: Speaking of weight loss, a number of athletes, including some swimmers, have unwillingly lost some pounds this week with the help of Delhi Belly. :yikes:

I'm concerned about the mosquito fog they're spraying. Is it harmful if people nearby breath it in or get it on their skin?

Yes. They all start singing and dancing as if they are in a Bollywood film. :D

BBC coverage as usual is comedy gold. Not only do we get footage of Colin Jackson doing a belly flop, but we get an interview with Batman (http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2010/oct/06/commonwealth-games-2010-delhi-october-6) that goes:

Phil Jones: "So why did they nickname you Batman?"
Ramone "Batman" Mckenzie: "Errr, because I wear this mask."

Horrible, horrible website - not user friendly at all. The results aren't even live (sometimes updated the following day) and the pictures posted aren't cropped properly.

You can't even click on the banner to bring you to the home page (it's a tiny house button at the top corner of the page).

I've given up.

Has anyone seen what the results are so far/final for the women's hammer throw? Sutana Frizell had just thrown her first when I left and with how horrible this website is... Any info would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Never mind just saw that Sultana won! :)

Name of the Games so far - Sheila Dikshit.
How people get into trouble over a name (http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/nz-television-host-does-it-again-this-time-ridiculing-dikshit-20101006-16753.html).

Well he should be in serious trouble after this one http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-world/nz-tv-host-suspended-over-racism-row-20101005-165ng.html

Ooops, Condoms are clogging the plumbing. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20101007/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_games_condoms;_ylt=AiuUOST2ZbmclImKZtkvvq as0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTNxbWY1NThqBGFzc2V0A25tLzIwMTAxMD A3L291a29lX3VrX2dhbWVzX2NvbmRvbXMEY2NvZGUDbW9zdHBv cHVsYXIEY3BvcwM5BHBvcwM2BHB0A2hvbWVfY29rZQRzZWMDeW 5faGVhZGxpbmVfbGlzdARzbGsDY29uZG9tc2Nsb2dj)

"If that is happening, it shows that there is use of condoms and I think that is a very positive story. Athletes are being responsible," Commonwealth Games Federation President Mike Fennell told a news conference on Thursday.

"We all know that encouraging safe sex is a very important thing to do."

Oh Canada!! :D :D :D

CBC Sports ~ Canada wins 9 gold medals on Day 4 in Delhi (http://www.cbc.ca/commonwealthgames/story/2010/10/07/spc-commonwealth-canada-golds.html)

I can't wait to see Brent's race on the repeat later tonight. I still can't believe he wasn't the anchor swimmer for our Relay Team. Talk about tactical screwups!!

Thursday's race was never in doubt. Sporting his trademark shaved head and Superman tattoo over his heart, Hayden led all the way, touching the wall in a stellar time of 47.98 seconds. That's a Commonwealth Games record and the fastest time posted in the world this year.

So happy for him after what was a bit of a disappointment for him in Beijing. Brent's really on track for London at this point in the Olympic Cycle. :)

Now...Does anyone know what ended up happening regarding the Women's 100 race? I saw the race this morning, and that it was run under protest, but haven't heard anything since. Did the winner end up disqualified? Both she and the girl from England had false starts, so...That usually means they're disqualified due to the new rules about a false start doesn't it?

Just wondering what ended up happening.

Well, she knew herself initially that she had gotten a false start. She was holding her head in her hands and looked upset until it was revealed that Turner had gotten out fractionally quicker. But the difference in reaction times between the two was so small that there was no way that one had set the other off.

Still, enormous cock-up by the starter not to have noticed this at the time of the race.
