 Singles aren't spaghetti noodles, you can't keep throwing them out there until one sticks. Or can you?

Allison Iraheta would say no.

I listened to Archie's third single. I don't think it's going to do any better than his other two.

I would rather a contestant on American Idol have too much personality or a polarizing personality, than have NO personality. IMHO, personality has been seriously lacking in recent years on Idol. The 2010 season had almost NONE at all.

Yeah. The problem is that most of the contestants have watched this show so much that they know that the bland, sweet, humble personality is what attracts votes, so that's what they convey. As a result, many of them suppress their personalities and those that don't get voted off. Lee v. Big Mike is a good example. Some of the earlier exits also are good examples. Like Lilly and that retro 70s guy.

I really think that American Idol should let the performance downloads show up on the iTunes chart like how it works for Glee. At least that way, the people who don't watch American Idol but still buy music are exposed to the contestants' names before the alums try to make it in the real music world.

Crystal's tweets are making it seem more and more like her album is a folk/rock album in the cateogory with The Avett Brothers and Ray LaMontagne. Right after she tweeted about how great The Avett Brothers are she said that the album is "a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll," but I'm pretty sure it will not be confused with a Donnie and Marie recording.

People are exposed to the contestant's names in magazines, entertainment shows, and talk shows. I don't think the producers would ever let the numbers be released. They'd be worried that people would assume from the numbers that the winner was a foregone conclusion. And, if the winner was different from the top downloader, people would think that the show was fixed.

Did anyone catch Kelly Clarkson singing the National Anthem at Game 3 of the World Series? I thought she was phenomenal, but then I always think that.

They introduced her as the 2010 American Idol winner. Lee was forgotten very quickly.

I don't know. I had never heard of Adam Lambert until after his season ended, and I think he got more buzz than contestants normally do during their run. I usually don't hear about American Idol contestants unless it's someone like William Hung or Sanjaya and then around May, I'll hear who won. I just think it'd be nice to attach the contestant's name to an actual music place like iTunes rather than the Ellen show. If I saw that contestant X was selling more singles than Katy Perry, I may be inclined to check them out.

And people already think this show is fixed anyway, so... :shuffle:

Oh, and Kelly sounded great. Thanks for the clip, Brian.

Jason Aldean's album came out today. I went and purchased the track featuring Kelly Clarkson. It is up to #72 on the iTunes chart for singles! Not bad at all considering it isn't an official single so it is off of her name and hype, most likely. It is the only other song from his album charting in the top 200 besides his lead single.

Kelly did a great job at the World Series (buy yay Giants!). The duet's not my cup of tea, but it's great that she has something being released now.

Crystal's producer is cracking me up. He might be getting a little punchy from all the mixing he's doing. His latest tweet about the album: "we have more hooks than a tackle box."

Oh, man. You know how Crystal said that there was just one song on her CD that she didn't have a hand in writing, and we all predicted that it would be her first single? Well, it gets worse than that. Her first single was written by Kara DioGuardi and Chad Kroeger. I take back what I said about schmaltz being on the record. What a bummer. Poor Crystal has talked about all how much she wanted to do her own material and how much she wanted to write with certain people and then she gets saddled with this. Jive strikes again! I think the fan reaction is as shocked and disappointed as the Lee fans' reaction to that Serendipity song. :(

Sounds like Riding with the Radio made the CD.

Looks like David Bendeth hooked Crystal up with Chad Szeilega of Breaking Benjamin. He's drumming for her for the time being.

Good Lord. Kara and Chad are two of the four horsemen of the Music Apocalypse. The other two being Scott Stapp and Susan Boyle. :D

 I hope she made something decent out of it. Jim Cantiello said it sounded good when she performed for VH1, but we don't know what the recorded version is like. I wouldn't be surprised if Bendeth did not produce this one. He took down the message that said he was producing Crystal's entire album.

In any event, Crystal clearly is not thrilled about the choice, but there's nothing she can do about it. Cantiello reviewed the rest of the VH1 set:

One thing I've noticed is that the people she meets in the business really seem to like her. Anderson Cooper, David Bendeth, the studio musicians, the people who have held the charity events, Franti, and Etheridge, etc. It's great that the folks at VH1 and MTV seem to like her because maybe she can get some exposure there on the rare occasion they are showing music instead of reality shows.

Omg...Chad Kroeger? Wow.

Well we all knew the first single would be something she probably didn't write and probably didn't really like. I hope she can survive it and move on past it and enjoy what may come of her career. I wish she could get lucky like Kelly Clarkson, have some mega hits just to have the chance to do what she wants later on in her career. Kelly is STILL fighting with her label and probably not recording the music she wants but at least she is famous enough that when she finally gets out of her contract, she can release the music she wants and her fanbase will be there to buy it and follow her on tour.

Well, if Crystal gets to release a second single, it's guaranteed that it'll be one she co-writes. I listened to some of the demo for the first single, and it's not that bad. It may actually sound pretty good with Crystal's voice. And sure, Nickelback aren't critical darlings, but they do have a lot of fans and sell a lot of music. So you never know.
