How do federations "promote" their skaters to the judges in order to encourage the judges to hold them up at competitions?

That might work at national events, but I don't think it's possible to influence ISU judges that way. At the 2009 US Nationals, the USFSA judges promoted Alissa Czisny........ :cheer:
................... then the ISU judges promptly demoted her. :(

IMO, Czisny won her 2009 National title primarily due to her excellent SP. If she had skated a similar SP performance at her next two international events, the ISU judges might have rewarded her, but we'll never know...

Nah, I think the :40beers: :nopryde: comes before the :bribe:. That way you can get people to forget their preference for your skater was due to any outside influence at all.

It used to be that being U.S. National Champion going into Worlds or Olympics carried a lot of weight (at least for the women anyway). Now ... not so much.
