Heh, Jimmy Carter's accent sounds like Blanche Deveraux's.

Oh man! Poor Caquatto! :(

She really doesn't look good tonight. :( Wouldn't it be amazing for the defending World AA champ to miss being picked for the World team?

Honestly, I think Bridget got lucky to be World AA champion. She has nice lines and decent skills, but it was a really weak filled with a lot of retirements, people out do to injuries, and then people who were there and not in form that were injured. I think Bridget is an assett IF she's healthy right now on floor and bars. But I think that that she's going to need upgrades to really even make the Olympic team because her strong events we are already strong on. Frankly I much prefer Mattie Larson as a gymnast to her. And they have similar strengths Bridget may be more consistent but Mattie has just way more style.. Frankly I prefer Mattie to Bross, but I can see how Bross is just way stronger on bars and beam.

NBC showed the bars medal ceremony, not the AA, if anyone got confused why Mattie was 3rd instead of 2nd. ;)

Beam ceremony is now on Universal Sports (briefly). And now Ivana Hong interview with Hells Angels Nastia.

Thank you! Thought I was going crazy. Also yesterday there was a pic of a medal ceremony where Brooks was 3rd instead of Wynn but Horton and Leyva were 1 and 2, another confusing thing.

And now Ivana Hong interview with Hells Angels Nastia.

What was the deal with Mattie Larson's and Carly Patterson's hair? Most untiffed. :P

Congratulations to Rebecca! Was that "Dark Eyes" that she used for her floor routine? That would be interesting, since that was Nastia's music - maybe it's the WOGA music?

Glad to see Alicia Sacramone back and doing well. Bummer about Bridget Sloan.

That was nice that NBC showed the tribute to the '80 Oly team. As I watched the broadcast, though, I was reminded why I'm grateful that's not the broadcast team for skating events. :yikes:

My mother heard the music and immediately said "she's using Sasha's music".

And Nastia was wearing the tallest stilletto shoes I've ever seen! She must have good balance to run around the gym floor in those!

I have to admit, Mattie Larson really grew on me. I wasn't convinced at the Covergirl Classic but she has more than proven herself here. With upgrades she would beat Bross as her form and execution is miles better, not to mention her artistry and dance. Her floor routine was the first routine of the night and it is the one I remember most. I love that she goes for the sticks.

Too bad about Zam's vault. I hate that they didn't show her night one vault since they did, on a few occasions, show other snippets of routines from night one. That would have taken all of 10 seconds to show, it was an AMAZING vault. Isn't she the ONLY American to ever do that vault? I feel really bad for her that Sac is back because her Cheng would be absolutely necessary in 3 up 3 count if it was consistent enough, that vault would really help make up for our bars deficit. I actually think Marta should take her if there is any way to make it work, but I don't know how likely that is going to be. A well done Cheng would be the highest score the US would count in team finals!

If Marta has learned her lesson at all Marta will take Zam, unless Zam's Cheng is inconsistent in Camp. None of our bar specialists will give Marta the top of scoring advantage Zam will give us. So seriously use Larson whose decent and just take Zam for vault. Frankly IF Zam's vault is consistent the last decision is between Sloan and a bars specialist.

If Sloan isn't hitting her bars set consistently than take one of Whitcomb, Mack, or Davis. I'm worried about this team to be frank. So many of these girls seem inconsistent and we have some real holes on this team (bars and that 3 beam worker). What is most upsetting is that our better bar workers Davis, and Mack couldn't even HIT their bars set.

Honestly Zam has some talent on bars. If Marta can she should find a way to get Zam out of UCLA and with a bars coach (maybe Valeri although I'm not sure about Valeri as a vaulting coach) Zam though has talent in general.

This is what I'm thinking
Vault-Sac, Zam, (whoever of our many dtys gets the highest score in Prelims )
Bars- Bross, Larson (Sloan/bars specialist)
Beam-Bross, Sac, Raisman/Hunter (who ever gets that spot) I don't really trust Sloan or Larson they are inconsistent.
Floor-Larson, Bross, Sloan (if not Raisman/Hunter)

Hopefully Sloan will get back into shape because I frankly trust her more than a lot of the other bar girls when she's in shape and she's so useful on floor.

Just saw the interview with that VP of USA Gymnastics who was on the 1980 team. Nice that he has the perspective that he has and it brings the point you can't take anything for certain.

Yeah. Nice to see those athletes being recognized. It's an interesting piece of the sport's history. I had forgotten that Elfi was supposed to be there for Canada as well.

Not really. It's the same stuff they showed on the Universal Sports online stream. Don't feel like seeing most of it again.

Just watched some snippets on youtube.

Mattie Larson has an "IT" factor which makes her so attractive to watch. She is by far my favourite US gymnast at the moment. Her FX is gorgeous (what's the music?) and I love how she actually has some choreo and dance; I could watch her triple spin all day. She has a mature elegance and actually demands some kind of emotional connection - a rarity for me for gymnastics of recent times. Yea I'm a fan lol. Is she a lock for the world team do you think?

Bross has definitely grown on me since I first saw her a year ago, but I still wouldn't call myself a fan. She just doesn't do it stylistically for me. Her legs and general form trouble me; it upsets me that she's probably the best AAer in the world with that kind of, albeit occasional, sloppiness. Another, slightly more shallow problem for me is her general demeanour; I can't decide if she's pissed off, upset, nervous or just plain angry half the time. I guess that's just her natural game face, and I kinda like her aggression, but overall I wonder if she could just relax a little more? I've never really been a fan of this more aggressive, trickster style robotic gymnastics, but I definitely appreciate how difficult her work is, how hard she works (she looks very "practiced" and fit) and how talented she is.

Sloan doesn't look there to me; she doesn't look as fit as she could, and I'm not really talking about injuries or her weight (which I know has been a sore point for Bridget AND Marta K.) I guess she just hasn't had the time to train BECAUSE of her injuries? Anyway, I wouldn't be so shocked if she wasn't at worlds, though I think she probably will be.

ITA about Mattie. She was the star of the meet for me and her floor exercise is, for this day and age, terrifically choreographed. She actually listens to the music and incorporates more than wrist flicks and bum wiggles to interpret it. :cheer: I do agree with someone upthread who mentioned the static quality of all floor work in general. There's no real travelling choreography anymore and with the girls not only having to stick the tumbles but the dance jumps also, it seems they spend half the routine presenting the landing of a trick rather than linking things together with actual choreography which is actually harder to do. Nice to see someone who can actually pirouette with some technique however ;)

I can't imagine that she won't be on the World team if she stays healthy. All Tim and Elfi went on about was Martha's obsession with the 'international style'. If that means gymnastics that actually has some artistry then Mattie has that in spades.

I really hope Zamarippa is on the team also but I won't hold my breath for that one. There was a video on gymnastike asking Martha for her thoughts on Zam's cheng night one and for a second it looked as though Martha didn't have a clue what they were talking about. Is Zam even on Martha's radar?

I really loved Mattie. I haven't finished watching it, but with Ivana Hong out, she was the only one with the international look in line and form.

Bross could have so much better line and form if she paid attention to those details and finished off her lines. She sometimes shows a nice arched pointed foot, then the next step she just plonks it down or sickles. Between that and her misery/pissed off/bored game face, I just can't become a fan of hers. I appreciate her difficulty, but I can't warm up to robotic "dead in the eyes" gymnastics (same reason I didn't like Gogean).
