Wood fire
August 7th, 2010 JST

By Cathy
Everybody, I am sorry so much to give you an anxiety for me.
I am getting better today.
(translator's note: She felt out of sorts somewhat from a few days ago.)

This is thanks to the cheering of everybody!
Thank you very much!

Although I heard that it had been already known by news,
Moscow is in terrible condition with the smoke now because the wood fires happened here and there by this abnormal weather.
As for more severe day, we need mask and sunglass.

Because my eyes are very delicate, I can not stop the tear because of smoke.

As for all persons who live in Moscow, it will be in terrible condition, won't it?
(Please contain me within them!)

Let's bear up! Then, let's pray for it to rain!

This was Cathy.

Choking
August 8th, 2010 JST

Chris: Because the smoke of wood fires is terrible, I'm going to choke!
The warning to go out of Moscow on this week end seems to have issued.

Cathy: It is 33 degrees centigrade in this room now. At last, we could not find an electric fan.in Moscow... We can not open the window, too.
As for the outside, visibility is very poor owing to the dense smoke.

Chris: There is a phone now from the coach who went to another country yesterday and we also seem to go out of Moscow.
(Translator’s note: Nikolai Morozov coach and Miki Ando are in Daugavpils in Latvia in Sunday)

Because the airport of Moscow is stopping the landing, the coach seems not to be able to return. I think that it seems to have to decide it as soon as we can, because it seems to be able to take off yet.

Cathy: Ha-ha. How far will a devil follow us to make us suffer???
Although we aren't doing any bad things!!!
Also, do we move in the other country? Ha-ha. My brain is going to be paralytic.

Chris: Hum! Will such an experience be necessary?

This is Cathy and Chris who are worry not only a little but also very much.

Sounds terrible. I hope the wildfires cease soon and the environmental conditions improve.

I would like to return.
August 8th, 2010 JST.

Chris: The situation is not too well.

Cathy: We attempted to change the date of a ticket for return to Newark of the round trip ticket, but were told that it costs $20,000-$200,000.
We bought the round trip ticket, but I cannot believe that it costs twice of the round trip ticket of Moscow-Newark for only changing the date.
Moreover, saying that there is not an empty seat until August 13th.

Chris: Because a window can't open because of the smoke, the room of the apartment filled with hot air is 33 degrees centigrade.
There are not an air con and an electric fan, and we already stayed here for 8 days.
Wanting to come out earlier from Moscow rather than wanting to return home.

Cathy: Today we planned to go for a training to the rink but didn't go because we could not become a feeling of walking to the station even if it was doing a much mask because the smoke was terrible.

Chris: It cannot contact with the coach.

Cathy: ….

Thank you for transkating, AkiraAndrea!

What terrible news. I hope and pray the situation in Russia will improve quickly. I wish I could donate some rains from Poland to Russia - here in my country many villages and cities are being destroyed by floods! :( What a scary summer!

The changing of our destination
August 8th, 2010 JST.

We can not keep the ticket to Newark.
There isn't the ticket to Newark till August 13th.
But we can’t wait till August 13th. .

We can’t contact with the coach, too.

So, changing our destination in haste, we decided to go to Mirano.

It is the flight of 20:25 in this night.

Although it is better if an airport isn't closed down...
The bad thing will not happen any more, any longer...

Yes, the bad thing must not happen any more for us.
It cannot happen.

Because we are good persons.

This was Chris who would like to go out of Moscow earlier.

Oh my, this does seem to be one horrible mess for these kids. I wonder if they have an adult with them?

Akira, can you please email Chris and Cathy, or post to their blog, that they do need to leave Moscow, and if they can't get a flight out, they should take a train to St. Petersburg - it's about a six hour train ride. There's little smog in St. Petersburg right now, and if they want to fly out from there, the airports are operating.

I know that it'll be an expense, but everyone that I know who's in Moscow right now is trying to get out. They tell me it's extremely bad there, and that the chances of being able to fly out of Moscow are not good right now.

If they need to, tell them to contact the US or Japanese embassy in Moscow for help.

I don't think they speak very much Russian.

Yikes, I'd been away and not current with news, so when I read this thread yesterday I didn't really understand the situation. Glad to hear they're on the way to Italy, it sounds like a very serious situation in Moscow at the moment (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_russia_fires). I hope the situation clears up soon for all affected.

I don't know what those people who arranged their move to moscow thought about when gave them the apartment without air conditioning. Temperature in Moscow didn't come down lower 30 C for last 1,5 months and last couple of weeks it's around 40C every day. Not a single rain since June. So you can only exist in air-conditioning space (which also somehow prevents fire smoke get into the building).

The take off
August 9th, 2010 JST

Our plane takes off after 10 minutes.
Barely, we can go out from Moscow.
The people who still stay in the city, The people who live in the city.
I think that they are disastrous.
When this blog is made public, we are flying in the air.
At last, I can sleep.
I am sorry to cause anxiety to everybody.
It is Cathy who heaves a sigh of relief.
