Costume was "Mad" by Ne Yo.

He writes " I want to bring somethig special this time" in brochure.
This song is released in Japan. So I was so glad. He suit with this song.

And Ilia was presented big flowers and presents.
Want to come again next year.

I see... thanks.

Ilia loves to skate in Japan - always has (he has often mentioned his 'soft spot' for Japan to the Krew). Even before Nagano, Japan was special to him and continues to be.

Miki:?(New SP?)

It was reported that Miki skated her new SP. A post from a user at Miki's fan forum:

They say it started with some thunderstorm sound effect and goes into hip-pop based violin thing very avant-garde, but never irritating, real cool and dancable.

For those who are interested, JOC (Japan Olympic Commitee)'s website has an article about this year's Friends on Ice. It talks about why Shizuke is keen on being an ice show producer, and Daisuke's first experience in being in charge of producing the group number for the show. (And some photos too - click to enlarge)

Here's my attempt to translate it into English.

Daisuke Takahashi's challenge to produce a show piece as 'a step towards his second career'

In her search for something different from being a conventional pro-skater as her second career after retirement from competitive skating, Shizuka Arakawa, who is the gold medallist for the Torino Winter Olympics, has been producing the ice show, Friends on Ice, once a year. 2010 is the fifth year for the show and she commissioned Daisuke Takahashi to be a producer for part of the show, hoping it to be a step towards his second career.

The reason why Ms Arakawa is concerned about second careers for younger skaters is because of severe situations awaiting skaters once they retire from competitive skating. It is most common for retired skaters to be an instructor or pro-skater; however, because of the very limited number of ice rinks in the country, there are very little demand for new instructors, and also only a few successful and popular skaters can earn living by being a pro. It is therefore urgently needed to establish paths for different kinds of second career, such as being a show producer or a choreographer.

Shizuka produced Friends on Ice 2006 in order to thank those who had supported her throughout her competitive career, shortly after her retirement. Producing the show intrigued her and since then she has tried different ideas each year, such as offering opportunities for kid skaters to perform in the show. And for this year, she asked Daisuke, whom she has been a friend with since they were much younger, to produce part of the show. She wanted him to have an opportunity to see figure skating from a different perspective, and to understand what is demanded by the audience and how it is like to be someone who supports skaters behind the scene.

Daisuke accepted the offer in the spring this year, and decided it was going to be a group number by male skaters only. He said 'I took up the offer without thinking too much about it, but I then got worried as no idea came to me. At the end, I asked my dance coach, who once gave me lessons on hip hop, to choreograph part of the routine, and then I arranged it to be able to be executed and looking good on ice.'

It was quick to decide on which 6 skaters to participate, including Takahiko Kozuka, Takeshi Honda, Evan Lysacek, etc, but there were only two days available for all the members to get together and practice before the opening of the show. 'I thought it would be really hard for the members to memorise the routine, but no one complained and they worked very hard. I was apologising to them in my head while showing them the choreography and telling them what to do; a real skill is needed to be a leader', he reflected. By the first show, they had perfected the programme in which 6 top-class skaters dance energetically to the upbeat hip hop and rock music.

Shizuka was impressed by him coming up with the idea of male only hip hop routine, and also by how skilfully he managed the members. She said, 'I discovered his talent in being a leader and hope he uses it in his second career.'

Daisuke doesn't yet have any concrete idea about what exactly he will do after retirement. He admitted that he had been thinking about leaving figure skating all together once retires until last year; however, since his road to Vancouver was supported by so many people throughout, he had changed his mind and has started thinking about how he could possible repay his debt through continuous involvement in skating. He shyly thanked Shizuka for giving him an opportunity, which he reckons to be useful in his future career and life in general, and was enjoying the ice show before the season begins, in which he aims for the second gold medal at 2011 World Championships.
