Anyone else notice that Donald Young has been climbing up the rankings the last few months? Last weekend he lost in the finals of a challenger event in Aptos, CA. Now I know he didn't get thru qualifying for wimbledon but in the last 3.5 months his ranking has gone from the 150's to 105. He turns 21 later this week so he's still young (get it...:lol::lol:). He's playing Atlanta this week via a wild-card. I'll be curious to see his results this summer. If he can improve his ranking just one more spot he'll get into the main draw for the US Open.

Anyone know the cut-off date for when they freeze the rankings for the US Open?

If Ana keeps slumping and Jovanovski schedules herself well, she'll be Serbian #3 soon. Just saw Jovanovski play JJ, and while she lost, she gave JJ a hard time, hits BIG and showed more fight in one match than Ana has in two years.

No Montreal WC for Ivanovic (http://communities.canada.com/montrealgazette/blogs/opencourt/archive/2010/07/20/no-montreal-wc-for-ana.aspx?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter)

I don't blame the management. Ivanovic has done nothing to deserve a WC, despite being a former champion. Canada has only 2 WTA tournaments a year, so I don't blame them for wanting to use it on their own players. Also, the tournament does very well every year, so they don't need another "big name".

Ana needs a reality check...her schedule is not the one a slumping, lower ranked player should have. She should do what Sharapova is doing and play more internationals to get her confidence back.

Fish up 4-1 in the 1st set vs. FurBeast in Hotlanta. :watch:

ETA: Fish took the 1st set and now it's all :drama: at 5 all in the 2nd. Mardy taking a moment, there's just no pace to this match.

FurBeast sort of blowing the big points, ugh, that one right into the net, splat, MP for Mardy.

Fish wins it, 6-1, 7-5.

AndyRoo and Ram are at 1 set all. 'Roo blew the 2nd set TB badly. :(

JJ rolled her ankle while being up 6-1, 2-1 on Yakimova. :(
She lost the second set and retired. She'd been playing pretty well before that. :fragile:

So Roddick pulled through 6-4 in the 3rd over Malisse. For awhile there I didn't think Roddick was going to make it. He's now 9-0 lifetime vs Malisse.

Dent/Fish is the next quarter-final. Really hope Taylor Dent can win it.

Damn....Dent got crushed 6-3 6-0. Fish/Roddick semi-final could be interesting.

I really think Andy is slowing falling away...I reckon this USO might be really important for him.

Fish OTOH seems to be in hot hot form these last few weeks.

Julia Goerges won her first title, winning in Austria. :)

Anna Chakvetadze is through to her first final in TWO YEARS! Good luck to her.

Dude's on a roll, nice to see ;)

^I'm oddly attracted to Fish.

My God, I've NEVER said that before. :scream:

^I'm oddly attracted to Fish.

He's very fit now. He doesn't look like such a bloated post-keg party fratboy anymore. :40beers:

My God, I've NEVER said that before. :scream:

 Oh sing it, boy! ;)

^ I quite enjoy the bloated Fish look. Mind you, I thought Andy looked hotter with a bit more meat on him. Also not loving his no-hair look.

Tennis notes:

Mardy Fish's ranking is now #35 up from #49 last week. With almost no pts to defend since he was injured last summer he's almost certain to be seeded at the US Open if he can continue to play well.

Boy oh boy, what has happened to Tommy Robredo. Can't win much these days to save his life. His ranking is now #38 in the world and dropping. If he's not seeded at the Open it will probably be the first time he's not seeded at a major in what 5-6 years. :( He lost again today in the 1st rd.

Every bad American woman showed up for qualifying for Bank of the West this week. Lindsay Lee Waters, Alexandra Stevenson, Mashona Washington etc. Of course none of them got thru although Washington did manage to win a match. Kudos to Marjana Lucic who got thru qualifying, just like she did at Wimbledon, and she's in the main draw now.

Speaking of Bank of the West, how did Ashley Harkleroad manage to get a wild-card into the event? She's played what, once in the last year and a half?

World Team Tennis championship is this Weds night!! What do they have, a 2 week season? I knew it was short but still......

Robredo is a huge overachiever. It is amazing he was ever a top 10 player and even qualified for the TMF once.

^He's cute, but ITA. He has a typical (read: nothing out-of-the-ordinary) Spanish style, and has managed to stay healthy enough to maximise his talent to the max - which is admirable in itself. But he'd do very well to get back to the top 15.
