Federer will probably retake #2 unless Djokovic has a great fall again.

A great fall? So, now you want Djokovic to be Humpty Dumpty? Well, I'd hate to see the things you wish upon Shriekapova. ;)

The hilarity (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs305.ash2/58573_481033620999_277527820999_7614457_6225010_n. jpg) of the Serbian Davis Cup team is unmatched.

Davis Cup Weekend! :cheer2:

Semis: Troicki replacing Djok in the first rubber.

Llodra and Monaco at one set all in front of a rockin' French crowd. :watch:

World Group Playoffs: Israel up 2-1 vs. Austria!

09-17-2010, 03:22 PM
Actually Israel is up 2-1 on Austria. Israel won the very important doubles match today take the lead. They will take Saturday off to celebrate Yom Kippur and then resume on Sunday.

Uh oh, Switzerland could be going down 2-0 to Kazakstan. Lost the first match and now Wawrinka is down 5-4 in the 5th in the 2nd with Kaz. serving for the match. Wish Federer would make Davis Cup a priority.

Correction: Wawrinka lost his serve so he loses the match 6-3 in the 5th!

So Djokovic is replaced by Troicki because of a severe case of gastroentritis. Djokovic has so many problems with his body breaking down over the course of a tennis year.

Llodra just broke to give France a 2 sets to 1 lead over Juan Monaco and Argentina. Monfils/Nalbandian to follow.

Womens tennis:

Ouch, Jie Zheng out for 6 months with wrist surgery.

Minor tournament taking place up in Quebec and 4 Americans are in the QF's. Oudin, Glatch, Mattek-Sands, & Christina McHale. Canadian Rebecca Marino also in the QF's after thrashing the top seed Marion Bartoli 6-3 6-1. Marino appears to be a good up and comer for Canada. Lost 2nd rd at the US Open to Venus after winning 3 matches in qualifying.

From the "in case you didn't notice" dept: Alexandra Stevenson lost in qualifying at this tournament 6-3 6-1 to Alexa Glatch.

Whee, Llodra! Dorky cute goofball of a man. Given Gael's propensity to lose the "big" match and choke with "home field advantage", I think that his and Fat Dave's match will be a good one.

My nervousness for the US team has shifted from singles to doubles, where rather than the proven team of Isner/Querrey, we'll have Isner/Harrison. I believe that PMac is sacrificing a point in order to [I guess] save Querrey from wearing down in altitude, and that's a solid strategical risk. But it leaves us vulnerable. ETA: Scratch that. Colombia is going with a new pairing, one of which is an obscure newcomer ... the USA are heavy favorites in doubles now. A relief. So now I turn my concern to the FREAK balls the Colombians are using. "Pressure-less" frankensteins that are not used in any tournament, but are deemed okay in the "anything goes" Davis Cup play. Mardy and Sam say that these balls land with a thud, dying in the clay, and allow for very little spin. Obviously, Team Colombia's goal is to turn the singles matches into a slow grind ... make the Americans toil away for hours and hours ... hoping that the altitude wears 'em down.

Fish leads off with a match versus Falla that could go either way (please Mardy, play well), and then Sam follows as a heavy favorite versus Giraldo. It'd certainly be nice to have a 2-0 lead versus 1-1 going into that doubles match.

09-17-2010, 04:45 PM
Well if Pat McEnroe had been smart and picked the Bryan brothers to play like he should have then you wouldn't be sweating out the doubles match would you? ;) I really hope this doesn't backfire on McEnroe. Time will tell.

Shocking how empty the stands are in Bogota. The bull ring holds something like 8000 and the stands don't even look 25% full.

BTW, I wouldn't consider Querrey a "heavy favorite" over Giraldo. Not on slow red clay. Giraldo is ranked something like 61st in the world.

Whoops, dizzy-queen moment, sorry Austria for forgetting your win!

09-17-2010, 05:36 PM
Lordy, that Bogota clay must be sllllllllllllllllow. Fish/Falla: Already nine breaks of serve and each guy winning about 50% of points on the other guy's serve. End of two sets -- one set all ... Mardy with the momentum (such as it is).

Lordy, that Bogota clay must be sllllllllllllllllow.

It looks like (and seems to be playing like) quicksand. :shuffle:

09-17-2010, 06:26 PM
Actually, to me, the court doesn't look so slow as I think it might be the balls instead. Beefcake, I had no idea they were using these specials balls until you mentioned it. The balls do seem to be flying thru the air and its making both players very tentative.

Jesus, Fish has just blown 3 sets pts on serve and is serving at deuce 5-4 in the 3rd.

09-17-2010, 06:29 PM
Well thank God Fish finally holds and the USA goes up 2 sets to 1. 4-6, 6-1 6-4.

Monfils is now up on Nalbandian 2 sets to 1.

Tipsarevic leads Berdych 5-3 first set. Troicki lost to Stepanek in 4 so Serbia really missed having Djokovic out there. Maybe the Czech Republic and their 2 man team will make the finals?:eek:

Geebus, Fish. :blah: Down 5-3 in the 4th, after being broken at love. He's getting just 25% of his first serves in for the 4th set. I've never seen a percentage that low.

Ooh, Falla having trouble serving for the set. Fish up 0-40, er 15-40, er 30-40, and it's duece. Ugh. Must be one ugly match.

09-17-2010, 08:12 PM
Fish breaks and wins 6-4 in the 5th!:saint::saint:

Thank God. You had 2 nervous players out there the whole match.

Monfils beats Nalbandian in 4 so France is now up 2-0 on Argentina.
