Congrats to Rafa, but did anybody else think that the coverage of this final was treated badly? I know CBS planned to have it all done before prime time, but I think they should have picked it up on the network after the rain delay anyway. All they were showing tonight was reruns.

I'm just glad that the match was over before 10:15 so that it didn't switch to ESPN Classic. We barely got to see Rafa hold the trophy before switching over to football.

Yeah, I was pretty annoyed at that but glad I got to see it albeit briefly. I don't know if ESPN Classic had anything to close since I don't get the station...thank goodness the match didn't last longer.

So thrilled for Rafa!!! I've wanted this ever since Federer took the French last year. And I've gained a whole lot of respect for Novak over the last two matches, he did himself proud.

I couldn't tear myself away from enjoying a great day outside so I only saw the post-rain-delay stuff (watching online). But at least I got to see Djokovic take a set.

Yes - even tho' I've always been a big fan of Rafa and not Djokovic, after Novak's amazing feat the other day I was kind of rooting for him tonight.

Anyone else feeling a letdown? The end of the US Open always seems like the official end of summer for me. And if I want more of a tennis fix anytime soon I'll have to figure out if the year-end tournies will be on a mainstream website like ESPN360.

Congrats Rafa! :respec:

Being Swiss, I have to admit that I didn't like him when he kept beating Roger at Roland Garros and prevented him from winning the last Slam he was missing. But Rafa's been so good and so classy over the past few years, and the 2 of them show so much respect for each other that I can't help rooting for him now. :)

Also, according to the commentators, if Nadal wins this, he will be the first since Laver (1969) to win 3 Grand Slams in one season. Laver won all 4 in the same season.
Roger won 3 Grand Slams in 2004, 2006 and 2007. ;)
(and yes, Roland Garros was the one missing those 3 years)

They began by saying the first to win 3 in a row but then got excited and started forgetting the last part making them give an incorrect statement because as you said Roger had won 3 in one year on 3 different occasions. They also really should have further clarified and said 3 in a row in the same year as Roger has won 3 in a row (2005 Wimby, US Open, 2006 Aus Open and 2006 Wimby, US Open, 2007 Aus Open) just not in the same calendar.

Anyways, congrats to Nadal on the career golden slam (is Agassi the only other one to do it?) I'm still not sure he can do a calendar slam as he still has yet to get through a full year with no injury.

Federer has an Olympic gold in doubles, right? Does that give him a half-golden Career Slam?

No, Doubles Career Grand Slams are when you have the doubles titles in all the slams, so the Olympic medal would only count towards that.

(I'm not just saying that to be mean - obviously Fed has had an amazing career so far. I think he did really well just to win the French Open and get a career slam!)

Djokovic has more points to defend late this year. Federer will probably retake #2 unless Djokovic has a great fall again. Murray has very little to defend. He could still climb up to #3 or #2 but will probably stay at #4. Based on the points just for this year it seems likely Soderling, Berdych, and Roddick will end the year ranked in that order from 5-7 barring an exceptional performance from someone. It would be a miracle if Davydenko defended his points from last year. And based on the current points just for this year Ferrer would be in line for the final TMC spot with Verdasco as 1st alternate and Youzhny as 2nd alternate and Melzer as 3rd alternate. Of course by then the points are alot closer and alot could change there. There will probably be some pullouts as usual.

3 Roger Federer SUI 6735 $4,077,635

It's the first time Djokovic moved up winning the match with the #2 ranking on the line instead of falling into it backwards.

Dickie Gasket is now up to #29. Nice and steady improvement over his :yikes: ranking at the beginning of the season. :cheer:

Also, glad to see Youzhny in top 10. His game is so impressive when he's on. Hope he manages to stay consistent.

Davydenko is in trouble. He's defending a shitload of points this fall and playing rather badly following the injury break.
