The very fact it's a Brit not named Murray, winning tour matches, should automatically ring alarm bells.

:cheer: Mardy won in Newport! At least I can predict the small events correctly. :P

Sadly, with Mardy not losing in this tourney, the self-satisfied headline writer hacks will have to take a powder from their usual puns. No "Rochus Fries Fish", "Rochus Hooks Fish", "Fish Reeled in", "Fish Filleted", "Hall of Fame Fish Flop", or "Fish Flounders in Newport" ... for this week, at least.

I leave you with a Fish quip (when asked about the betting :drama: over Bloomfield):

"He doesn't seem like that type of guy. Maybe he's got rich friends."

Fish Schools Conspiracy Mongers! :D

Lord. Melanie Oudin was playing doubles at a 10K in Atlanta (WTF?!)...and lost in the second round. :duh:

Brief on Serena's surgery (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/18/sports/tennis/18sportsbriefs-serena.html)

Vaidisova and Stepanek got married (http://media.novinky.cz/446/224460-gallery1-nc2oa.jpg). She looks stunning! Hope they have a happy life together.

I hate to be a cynic but I wouldnt be surprised if Serena simply doesnt want to play until the U.S Open. She has made it clear for awhile the slams are all she really cares about. She doesnt want to push herself hard to win the other events, but she probably doesnt really like losing either, so what is the point.

Could she really lie about having foot surgery and get away with it, though? That would take some major creativity. If so, then upon her retirement, I eagerly await her upcoming book An Excuse for Every Occasion. ;)

I doubt she would lie about having surgery, though. I think she would just lie about some foot injury and leave it at that and it would miraculously be healed in time for the US Open. I hope she can recover, foot issues took out Seles from the sport, she never was able to come back from her foot injury.

Here's something to think about. If her injury is legit:

1) Why hasn't the name of the restaurant been released?

2) Is she suing the restaurant, or at least making it pay for her surgery?

3) Has anyone ever heard of a person cutting his or her foot at a restaurant on broken glass before?

Maybe Serena's just been listening to too much Annie Lennox. ;)

Hingis's career was ended in part by foot injuries too. When Monica was forced to retire by a bad foot at 29 she waited until mid 30s to make it official (after first planning a comeback at 34) so it makes you wonder how long she was wanting to play. It is amazing she was still that motivated when she was a 9 slam winner who hadnt won a slam in over 7 years or reached a slam final in 5 years at that point.
