Something I've been wondering about . . . are any of the top 50 or so women on the tour coached by a woman? Every time I hear about a female player's coach, he seems to be male. Just a random flicker of curiosity is all.

Aren't the Williams Sisters coached by the mother? Although in their case the term "coach" is a loose term!!

Czech Republic is now up two sets to love. Dlouhy has had some nice shots and good hustling. :cheer2:

I would not want to be Davydenko tomorrow, ugh, such pressure. :fragile:

Cilic vs. Djokovic tomorrow, with Serbia up 2 Rubbers to 1, could be a very exciting match up. :watch:

Alona Bondarenko married her coach this weekend.
http://www.tennis.com/articles/templates/ticker.aspx?articleid=6494&zoneid=6

The couple tied the knot at a registrar's office in jeans and T-shirts that said "Just Married."

"As athletes we have to get married in something sporty," said Bondarenko, 25. "[We] didn't want pompous outfits."

Davis Cup notes:

So we'll have new Davis Cup champions since France eliminated Spain yesterday 3-0. :) Kudos to France. They last won the Cup in 2001. Now they host the winner of Russia/Argentina in the semi-finals.

Russia/Argentina are now in the 5th and deciding rubber. Fat Dave is playing Youzhny. C'mon Fat Dave. Russia last lost a home time in 1995.

Serbia just eliminated Croatia. Djokovic made quick work of Cilic beating him 6-3 6-3 6-2! The crowd in Split was dead silent when Serbia clinched the tie.
Now Serbia will play the Czech Republic in the semi's. I'm assuming a coin toss will decide home court advantage.

Major kudos to the tennis channel for showing the Serbia/Croatia tie today since France clinched their victory over Spain yesterday.

Suspicious betting in match at Newport, from the Daily News:

Newport match attracts suspicious betting July 09, 2010
The first-round match in Newport between Brit Richard Bloomfield and Belgian Christophe Rochus attracted over $1.5 million in wagers, reports the Daily Mail.

The amount was 15 to 20 times that bet on equivalent matches, according to the paper, with the betting patterns also arousing suspicion that the match could have been fixed. Odds for the players were fairly even until shortly before the contest, when No. 552 Bloomfield became a heavy favorite against No. 160 Rochus. Bloomfield was 1-8 to win by the time he pocketed the first set.

Bloomfield won 7-6 (1), 6-3, and came through his next round 6-3, 7-6 (5) over Santiago Giraldo in a match that has not attracted any suspicion.
