If it were all about slam count, overall achievements in singles or doubles, tournament count, most would consider Court the greatest ever and while she is up there few rate her over Graf or Navratilova. Court after all has the record of 24 singles slams, the record of 62 combined singles/doubles/mixed slams.

I think it is Court's record that is most deceiving. She literally had no competition for like ten years down in Australia. None of the top players went there. So I would have expected MSC to have more than 22, given a 10 slam jumpstart on the field. And Evert has said in interviews how much she regrets not going down there in December. She knows she could have been all-time slam winner if she'd bothered to have shown up.
As for Serena, she is one of the best ever even if her tournament records don't back that up. Both she and Venus have had limited schedules and/or just didn't focus on the smaller tournaments. She might not be in the GOAT level yet, but if she keeps winning, I'd get her there. For me Graf/Navratilova are at the top. I'd put Martina higher than Steffi due to her longevity, that she had just about every shot in the book unlike Steffi, had mad volleying skills, and really transformed the definition of a woman athlete.

 Serena acknowledging her "massive butt". Girl is getting funnier and more likeable with age. [Aging helps most of us in that respect ... less guarded and more self-actual/self-depreciating]

Serena coveted her sister's body (www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/celebrity.news.gossip/07/06/serena.williams.body.ppl/index.html)

I'm super-curvy. I have big boobs and this massive butt. [Venus is] tall and she's like a model and she fits everything," the younger Williams sister tells Harper's Bazaar.

:respec: Serena

So the Wimbledon champions dinner was a celebration of one massive lady butt and one famous man butt :P

I've always preferred Venus, but Serena is growing on me more and more. Perhaps the USO last year was a humbling experience after all?

Some interesting moves in the latest rankings. Venus down to #4, and Jelena up to #2. It's pretty funny that Stosur lost in the first round at W. but rose a notch to #5. Vera leaped 11 notches to #9, Kvitova 33 notches to #29, and Pironkova 47 notches to #35. I hope we see more of Kvitova especially. I mean, there has to be some young talent somewhere ready to rise to the top.

The WTA should just rank Serena at #1 and 99 others at #51 then work out from there.

Dustin Brown, the pretty German-born Jamaican, is on the rise! :) He upset Sam Querrey today at the Hall of Fame tournament in RI to move into the quarterfinals. Sam Victim of Casino Curse (www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2010/07/27/Newport-Wednesday-Fish-Rolls-Into-QFs.aspx)

Nic Mahut fell too ... this time in only 1 hour, 16 minutes. :P

Big Fish is going to win this thing walking away.

Apparently 42 year old Thomas Muster is attempting a comeback. He's not sure where it will lead him but he wants to play competitive tennis again. Got a wild-card into the challenger event in Braunschweig, GER. last week and got drilled 6-2 6-1 in the first rd by Conor Niland of Ireland.

Wonder what his next event will be, or if there will even be one?

Muster should give it up and play poker with Kafelnikov instead. ;)

If you're winning just three games against an Irishman, you're comeback is OVER.

Would Davydenko be willing to tank matches for him if he did? ;)

Something I've been wondering about . . . are any of the top 50 or so women on the tour coached by a woman? Every time I hear about a female player's coach, he seems to be male. Just a random flicker of curiosity is all.

According to this DEUCE Magazine article (http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/DEUCE-Tennis/DEUCE-US-Open-2009/Denis-Istomin.aspx), Denis Istomin and Donald Young are coached by their respective mothers. :shuffle:

^In Young's case I think the term "coached" should be used loosely.

Kuznetsova is coached by former player Larisa Savchenko (nee Neiland)
