Ryan Harrison wins it in 4!!! :cheer2:

Yippee! A Star is Born. Ryan Harrison wins in 4 over Ivan Ljubicic the #15 seed! :):):)

Tennis channel showed a lot of the match. Martina Navratilova had high praise for Ryan saying how he looked liked he belonged out there. Kid has a huge game. Great kick serve and a big forehand and excellent court presence. Martina praised his shot selection.

Considering how hot it is in NY he looked incredibly fit. Ljubicic looked tired out there. Oh to be 18 again.

Bring on Sergei Stakhovsky in rd 2. :encore::encore:

I don't see Vee getting by Pironkova this weekend, anyway.

So the word is that Azarenka may have also fallen before the match, and it doesn't appear to be heat related.

There was a statement from the tournament about wanting to protect her privacy, but with release of details like that, good luck.

Who the heck is Mandy Minella and what is she doing beating the Wimbledon semi-finalist?

Impressive stat: The French men went 12-2 in the 1st rd at the Open.

That was my question until I clicked to look at said Wimbledon semifinalist's Slam record (excepting that result). Almost all 1st round exits ... ergo, today's result was ho-hum. Though I've got to  that an unknown named Mandy Manilla was the one to do it. Girl with that name should be hanging with iCarly or Selena Gomez, or something.

^ Give a holler to Mama Kim for me! Have fun.

ETA: Oh my heck, I see there's a guy named "Jack Sock" on the court right now. :shuffle: Ladies and gentlemen, your latest candidate in the Unfortunate Names Sweepstakes! (Poor guy.)

Beefy, one of these days you, me, and a couple other folks we know need to make the trip to the Open. I have a great friend about 7 stops from the courts... we could stay with her and watch tennis all week long. I would even give up going to the bars in lieu of tennis!

I love watching Youzhny's game when he's on. :respec:

Hey, cut Jack Sock some slack. He's only 17 and just got into the Open when he won the 18 and unders in Kalamazoo 2 weeks ago. :D

This is great experience for him.

Oudin finally getting it together and now leads Bondarenko 5-4 in the 2nd set after being down the whole match.

As Nancy Kerrigan's mom once said about Tonya you have to say the same thing about Melanie Oudin; "that girl has got spunk"!:lol::lol:

Well, Mandy Minella is almost 25, so she's gotta grow out of that phase sometime. ;) Considering Venus didn't have the easiest time today with someone of similar ranking (low 100s), I'm not so sure this next match will be a total breeze for her either. This is Minella's 5th match at the Open (including qualifying), and she's only lost one set so far.

That's too bad about Azarenka. Has anyone checked on judgejudy27? ;)

It's pretty funny that Petra Kvitova couldn't win a match for five tournaments in a row after Wimbledon, and now she's in the third round. I guess that girl needs the spotlight. :)

BTW, what is the reason no men's second-round matches have been played yet?

What the hay is up with Roddick? Did someone mention mono? He split the first two with Tipsarevic, is tanking in the third...

I love Roddick, but come on. This behavior is just bizarre now. I can't believe he hasn't even gotten a warning. What a different reaction to a very similar situation from last year, and this call wasn't even incorrect like the one made against Serena. I'm really surprised the ref hasn't intervened.
