IGinny would hardly have muggle fasionable clothing to wear to King's Cross Station.

but ginny didn't have any muggle fashionable clothing so what is your point? :P

my mental images of the books hasn't changed with the movies but they were heavily influenced by the audio books read by Jim Dale

The point was, she wasn't supposed to have any. ((((Ginny))))

I love Jim Dale. Except for his changing Nigellus Black's voice between OoTP and HBP. I preferred the OotP voice. I guess one out of all the numerous voices in the series isn't a bad record (and it shows how many times I've listened to them that I recognize such as thing. :D )

didn't mr weasley collect old crappy muggle objects like that car? that would account for ginny's ensemble.

Yes, he did and her parents hardly looked like the pages of Vogue.

They should have had a Victoriare and Teddy Luppin snogging somewhere in the steam of the train.

I read the first couple books before the movies came out when I was just a kid, but that was so long ago I really have a hard time remembering the nuances of the book as well as how I saw the characters.

I do remember that I saw Draco as a bit more Nordic than Tom Felton, and Hermione with darker, curlier hair and of course bigger teeth. Dan Radcliffe as a kid was the spitting image of how Harry was described so no difference there really. And despite the movies having already come out, I always pictured Ron taller and lankier than Rupert Grint in the later books.

Oh, and I always pictured Lavender Brown as black. I'd have to go back to HBP and see if that is accurate, but I dunno. I may have been getting her mixed up in my head with another character previously described as being black.

Regarding Harry's eye color, they could have digitally changed it, I suppose. It's been done before.

Lavender was not black. Angelina Johnson and Dean Thomas were.

And Blaise Zabini of the high cheekbones. One of the better casting jobs.

A lot of people thought Lavender was black because in some of the earlier movies, there was a black girl who was sort of an extra in Gryffindor robes in the same year as the Trio. She was generally thought of to be Lavender because of that, plus she was usually sitting next to Parvati. So I think it was a subconscious association going on there.

Lavender's looks were never really described in the books, though I always pictured her as a blonde just from her personality.

That would be a huge pain for the main character though... but it should have been done on the little girl who played Lily!

I think the only black characters Rowling listed were Dean Thomas, Angelina Johnson, Lee Jordan, Blaise Zabini, Michael Corner and Kingsley Shacklebolt...I think that was everyone. Of course Cho Chang was Asian (judging by the surname Chang, I'd say of Chinese descent) and the Patil twins were of Indian descent, with Patil or Patel being a very common Indian surname.

I always pictured Lavender as white with long dark-brown hair. In my mind, Hermione's hair was darker than it was in the film and more bushy, like that pic of Anne Hathaway I posted earlier. This (http://www.google.com/imgres?q=anne+hathaway+princess+diaries+hair&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbnid=At7Di4zScgw-iM:&imgrefurl=http://dailycaller.com/2011/04/11/the-lady-hath-won-us-over-anne-hathaway-slideshow/&docid=dM-vVVNQ62hioM&w=494&h=264&ei=gsMtTqC3LcXYgAfc4tSZCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=443&vpy=291&dur=1157&hovh=164&hovw=307&tx=200&ty=87&page=1&tbnh=164&tbnw=236&start=0&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0&biw=944&bih=653)is how I see Hermione's hair. I do like Dan for Harry but my Harry is much taller, closer to 6' and Ron is taller (maybe 6'1" or 6'2") and a bit lankier.

In all honesty, Mary Grandpre's drawings (http://www.google.com/imgres?q=harry+potter+mary+grandpre&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbnid=pkZ4eXJQ1DZ5WM:&imgrefurl=http://www.myhero.com/go/print.asp%253Fhero%253Dh_potter_colerain_hs_US_200 8&docid=Ceg4YJSf8qVWsM&w=263&h=320&ei=HcQtTpCbHob2gAffgM2zCw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=326&page=2&tbnh=164&tbnw=135&start=13&ndsp=10&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:13&tx=63&ty=85&biw=944&bih=653) of the characters has shaped quite a bit of their appearance in my mind. It's interesting to see how the character drawings changed from book to book as they got older...

I started reading the books around the time the first movie came out. I didn't really care for the book illustrations but thoughts the trio was perfectly cast. So the movies really did shape how I perceived the trio. With every new casting announced, I'd Google the actor and see how well they fit the bill. Most of the time they did. I did see Dolores Umbridge as being a lot fatter and a lot more toad-like than Imelda Staunton. I pictured Fleur more like the young Emmanuelle Beart and Cho Chang like Zhang Ziyi. I certainly didn't picture the older Ginny like Bonnie Wright, that's for sure. I didn't picture Narcissa with a skunky streak of dark hair. I thought she was a platinum blonde.

As to the boys: Draco, the twins, other Weasley boys were perfect. Jason Isaacs was spot on. I anxiously awaited to see Ralph Fiennes as V but now that image is indelible.

I thought Alan Rickman gained a bit of weight in the last movie and that would have been inconsistent with the whole war-like atmosphere. Perhaps Snape is a stress eater but I just can't see it.

I had issues with Michael Gambon being a rougher around the edges DD after the gentle Richard Harris but he came through in the last film. Finally.
