let`s talk

Joubert landed on the toe pick and then turned the jump a pretty great deal afterwards-- definitely more than 1/4.

This video, which is supposed to help his cause, does the exact opposite after you watch the slow-motion of the jump. At least it does in my eyes.

It doesn't do in Urmanov's eyes. Neither does it in mine:

Hey let`s talk, why don't you start a separate thread about this topic (jump underrotations vs. downgrades, etc.) since this thread is mainly about assignments and GP alternates. Unless you're trying to end this thread early? ;) (52 posts to go to 1000!)

This is a case where the GP selection & alternate rules need to be changed for next season, IMO.

Definitely.

Because of many injuries and retirements/splits, the alternate lists have run out and the spots are being wasted.

Did anybody hear anything about Reed/Japaridze?

They did not do any B-Internationals and have not been entered as replacements to any GP events.

Looks like they split or are injured. :(

They're competing in Ice Challenge in Graz -- just skated the Short Dance, in fact (see the thread in Kiss and Cry where there's a live video stream link -- also created a thread in TV Alerts).

Once again, please give one of the open spots to Zhiganshina/Gaszi, they deserve it so much!

I agree. And those rules are not fair. I really enjoyed them at Nebelhorn, and they are much better than quite a few dance teams I saw on the GP this season so far.

I've often thought, particularly in the case where there are last-minute withdrawals and visa issues that you should allow the host country an extra pick.

^Why not? It's getting to the point where there isn't much else to do...

The ISU needs to have more contingency plans in place. If it happened once, it could easily happen again.

Sarah Meier (SUI) is out of Russia. :(

http://isu.sportcentric.net/db//files/serve.php?id=2279

Possible replacements:

1. Can't be a Russian lady (they already have 3 assignments).
2. Can't be someone already assigned to RUS.

(1) Amanda Dobbs USA SB 23 - CHN
(1) Elena Glebova EST SB 36 - RUS
(1) Kristine Musademba USA 39 SB - CHN
(1) Sofya Biryukova RUS SB 47 - RUS
(1) Quiying Zhu CHN SB 58 - CHN
(1) Ivana Reitmayerova SVK SB 61 - RUS
(1) Bingwa Geng CHN SB 73 - CHN

Skaters on the Alternates List (listed in order of SB rank) without a GP assignment
Cheltzie Lee AUS SB 44 (coming back from injury)
Emily Hughes USA SB 50 (assume retired?)
Ellie Kawamura USA SB 55
Maria Artemieva RUS SB 56
Chae-Hwa Kim KOR SB 66
Ekaterina Kozireva RUS SB 68
Karen Zhou USA SB 74
*************************

My vote is for Geng or Dobbs, if any replacement is made. RUS has no Euro skaters left to choose from.

Surely no replacement for Meier. There's no time for visa application.

Fingers crossed for Amanda. She truly deserves a second GP.

You'd think that Russian Fed could organise that to be speeded up in such case. :/

Bingwa truly deserves COR after COC. Give it to her!

I don't think so, esp. if the possible alternate is an American.
